What happened to the camp. After the war, the 52 buildings on the site were sold to individuals and businesses in the surrounding towns and villages and moved. A small number of these buildings continue to be used as homes or summer cottages in the Minto and Grand Lake areas. What happened to the Camp. Visit our Historical Trail. Take a leisurly walk through our Historical Trail on the original Internment camp site. The trail is located 14.5 km/9 miles West from Minto and 32 km/20 miles east from Fredericton on route 10. The trail is open year round at no charge. You will need snowshoes or cross country skies in the winter.It is recommended to bring along insect repellent for May and June. The walk will take about 15 minutes. Please do not litter, only take pictures and memories with you.

The Museum is located at 420 Pleasant Drive Unit 1, Minto, New Brunswick, E4B 2T3. The site of the original camp was chosen for three reasons:. Its remote location on highway #10, 34 kilometers east of Fredericton, at Ripples. The site had been the location of a relief camp during the depression and some of the buildings were serviceable. There was plenty of lumber to provide work for the internees. What happened to the Camp.

The New Brunswick Internment Camp was a total of 58 acres, which included a 15 acre fenced in prison compound. It was one of 26 such camps across Canada and the only one in the Maritime Provinces. There were 5 rows of barbwire and 6 machine gun towers. The camp consisted of 52 buildings, including 14 in the prisoner compound. What happened to the Camp.
