Let’s get down to brass tacks. I tried to condense a 2.5 hour lecture down to less than a 1000 words, so do me a favor and read it. In class, we discussed a question that I’ve been wondering for awhile: is Islam compatible with modern Western democracy? He’s able to not only interpret the sharia, but he’s also able to enforce it.

This morning started with the call to prayer being blasted through our windows; a mosque was directly across the street. For the first time, I wished it would just end (Keep in mind, it was 6 am). After a quick breakfast, we checked out and boarded our buswhen our guide informed us we were touring the mosque across the street. Oops. We toured a building next to the mosque, which was the tomb of Rumi.

I recommend doing the same if you’re ever in the area. So because my camera broke, I'm recycling old pictures. I did visit the Blue Mosque (above) this morning before it was open to tourists.
