Home Instead: April 2013
http://nekhomeinstead.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. That brown indicates shade, maybe keyline issues. The cherry tree is coming to life. Rhubarb looks like a disgusting brain when it's first opening. Unhappy onion, planted too early, crowded until transplant. Happy onion, planted later, waiting for the soil to warm. A row of peas :). Hoop house with barley planted as a last minute cover crop. Violet in poor condition, but well-confined. Sunday, April 28, 2013.
Home Instead: Fishing
http://nekhomeinstead.blogspot.com/2013/08/fishing.html
Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Thursday, August 8, 2013. When we were done, we had caught three perch, all of which we released. I did actually get to drop a line in a couple of times, and I figure with a bit of practice, I will get to do more fishing. We've left the gear handy to facilitate some spontaneous trips. http://nekhomeinstead.blogspot.com/2013/10/knitting.html
Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Wednesday, October 16, 2013. With the extra-curricular activities in full swing, I have a few hours a week just sitting. This is the best time for me to do reading and knitting. For reading, I've been slowly working my way through a David Foster Wallace book on the history of infinity. For knitting, I've finished one pair of socks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Throwback at Trapper Creek. Finding the RIght Thing.
Home Instead: September 2013
http://nekhomeinstead.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Thursday, September 12, 2013. We have the most amazing sunflowers this year, and we're looking forward to having sunflower seeds to munch on through the winter. There are so many that I feel certain there are enough for us and some wild life. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Throwback at Trapper Creek. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.
Home Instead: February 2013
http://nekhomeinstead.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Friday, February 15, 2013. Sure, sure, there are logistical problems, and anyone who has been in a cooperative knows the work will not be divided evenly. But again, maybe the benefits would be more important than the headaches. What, you may be wondering, would be the benefits? 2 A relationship with a cow. Cows are good for people; they make you be calm because you're going to lose if your bad attitude irritates the 1200 pound cow.

A document of sorts. Friday, May 20, 2011. Dinner with Friends Part II: Hosting. Recently M and I have had the opportunity to host a few friends for dinner. Our first, real dinner-party-for-the-sake-of-having-a-dinner-party guys! It's fun to treat our friends to a nice meal, and it's been great to learn to work together this way. When we made Thanksgiving dinner we fought out of a pressing sense of tradition (holiday's are stressful, right? For the meal we served a " shrimp and asparagus salad. Which was...

Typical Adventures: January 2013
http://typicaladventures.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
A document of sorts. Friday, January 4, 2013. I've posted a year in pictures in the past. Where I made rules for myself about how many I could have per month. I didn't really do that this time. Every month has at least one picture, more have others. Happy New Year everyone. I hope (and expect) 2013 to be even better! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A document of sorts. Sunday, December 16, 2012. The National Building Museum: A Brief History. So my friend Patricia. Pointed out in a comment how absolutely beautiful the National Building Museum is. I know, right? The building was originally built in the 1880's to host Inaugural Balls and to serve as the offices of U.S. Pension Bureau. Multi-tasking! There is a terracotta frieze of Civil War soldiers running along the entire building. I wonder why? He was trained at West Point as an Engineer and served...

http://typicaladventures.blogspot.com/2012/05/beautiful-world-star-fruit.html
A document of sorts. Sunday, May 27, 2012. Beautiful World: Star Fruit. This is a star fruit:. Star fruit are tasty, something like apple-grape-lemon-pear in flavor. I know how to cut one properly (remove the veins running down the points) because my friend Christine taught me. Christine learned how by watching a lady on a train in China cut one. Isn't that neat? I like the world, don't you? Happy Memorial Day weekend everybody! June 8, 2012 at 11:19 AM. June 8, 2012 at 11:34 AM. It is a fruit salad!

Homesteading, homeschooling, and homemaking in the Northeast Kingdom. Thursday, October 17, 2013. Finding the RIght Thing. I often am at a loss on how best to meet Sylvie's unstated wants and needs, those things I often can just sense with the other two. But, I suggested she give this a try the other day, and it was just the thing for my little monkey. Though probably not so good for my nerves. Wednesday, October 16, 2013. For knitting, I've finished one pair of socks. Monday, October 14, 2013. I will ad...
