http://www.nerdjargon.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 2, 2015. Raspberry Pi 2: A New Slice. Today Raspberry Pi announced. A new version of their massively popular single-board computer system, used by faithful hobbyists worldwide. The really awesome thing is that they didn't change the price. Now you get a quad core ARM-Cortex A7 and a gigabyte of RAM for the same price of 35 bucks! Posted by Mark Wing. Nerd Jargon: Adventures in SDR: Software Defined Radio For Cheap
http://www.nerdjargon.com/2015/05/adventures-in-sdr-software-defined.html
Friday, May 1, 2015. Adventures in SDR: Software Defined Radio For Cheap. Background (Not For TV! My quest originally involved looking for a cheap TV tuner while I stay out in a cabin in the woods, rehabbing my sister's property in a very rural area. I can get satellite but I don't watch much TV. I could stream Netflix or something but I'm lucky to have this semi-reliable, low-bandwidth Wi-Fi connection across a small valley to the neighbor's house. So I bought this $13 dongle from Amazon. In the chipset...
Nerd Jargon: AT&T Spam
http://www.nerdjargon.com/2015/07/at-spam.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. They treat you like you are a rag to wring out is how they treat you. And AT&T didn't care if you hated them when they were the only phone company in the country before they were broken up for being a monopoly, and they don't care if you hate them now. So, it's not surprising that they would try to trick their wireless customers, especially the under-privileged prepaid customers. Just today I got this super awesome notification in the form of a text message, so I know they have ...
Nerd Jargon: No, I Don't Want A Target Credit Card
http://www.nerdjargon.com/2015/08/no-i-dont-want-target-credit-card.html
Saturday, August 1, 2015. No, I Don't Want A Target Credit Card. I've been saying this for a while now: Most big businesses at some point have just dropped all pretense of caring about their customers in the name of short term profit. Somehow this magical credit card can be used just like a debit card. Yep, it does everything. Why wouldn't you want to save 5% on all your purchases at Target? There's no reason not to.". I leaned in a little, looked him in the eyes and said "because I really don't want a T...

Friday, February 6, 2015. How To Make WiFi Work With Windows 8.1 On Acer Aspire 5920. As my mom would say: "That Aspire is still perfectly good- don't throw it out! WiFi doesn't work after installing Windows 8.1. The symptom is that the system doesn't see the built in Intel WiMAX WiFi card. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Big Man, Little Dog. Saturday, March 8, 2014. Replacing the Keyboard on an HP Pavilion G7 Laptop. After stripping down my wife's HP G7 Pavilion laptop to replace the CPU fan and documenting the project, it dawned on me that there were plenty of common tasks along the way, and some folks might find it useful to document those simpler tasks, such as just replacing the keyboard. Taking out the keyboard is a pretty easy job. Used to remove and replace all of the small mounting screws. Flat Blade Pocket Knife. 3 Take off the keyb...
Fix Stuff Now: Fix USB Widgets With Super Glue
http://www.fixstuffnow.com/2014/11/fix-usb-widgets-with-super-glue.html
Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Fix USB Widgets With Super Glue. I managed to snap it back together, but it still felt a little loose. I remember when Krazy-glue came out in the 70's. It was a badge of honor among boys to have their fingers semi-permanently stuck together. It was a useful product, but all the hype died down once people realized it wasn't as useful as it appeared to be, and of course all the mischief. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fix Stuff Now: December 2013
http://www.fixstuffnow.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 23, 2013. We have a couple built in night light fixtures on our stairway so that anyone walking down the stairs in the dark will always have light. That's the idea anyways. In practice, they are never lit because the little nightlight bulbs only last a few months. Recently I saw someone on the BLF forums mention an LED nightlight bulb which was available as a Prime add-on on Amazon. Here's the product link:. The only tool I used was a cordless screwdriver. Now it looks about as bright as...
Fix Stuff Now: September 2013

Sunday, September 8, 2013. Replacing Solution Tank For Hoover SteamVac. We ordered a replacement tank from Amazon. Have the improved tank, so that's something. The new tank arrived looking much more robust than the original. I sure hope so. The plastic looks thicker and less brittle as well. Also, the caps on the tank and soap reservoir look much sturdier. The Amazon reviews talk about how much better it is, so hopefully we'll be in good shape. Putting the new tank in the Steamvac: it fits perfectly!
Fix Stuff Now: Replacing The Keyboard On An Asus K55N Laptop
http://www.fixstuffnow.com/2014/07/replacing-keyboard-on-asus-k55n-laptop.html
Thursday, July 24, 2014. Replacing The Keyboard On An Asus K55N Laptop. Laptop has been my blogging buddy for about the last year and a half. And it definitely shows by looking at the keyboard. Some of the commonly used copy and paste keys are completely worn off, and some of the mechanisms on some of the keys have given out and the keys barely work. So be aware that there are two different types of keyboards out there: those without the tabs. And those with the tabs. Which is almost always in my pocket.

Friday, October 10, 2014. Fix: HP Pavilion G7 Laptop Internet Connectivity Issues Upgrading to Windows 8.1. Dumb question, so I sat down to figure this out. Eventually I found this link. From HP tech support, instructing a user to reset their TCP/IP stack, and it worked! It makes perfect sense because the symptoms I was seeing indicated something wrong with the TCP/IP stack. I've never seen Windows networking just break like that, so resetting the stack is something I've never had to do before.

Nerd Jargon
Friday, July 28, 2017. TeeSpring Is An Awful Company. It seemed like a good idea. I run a Facebook page with over 400,000 followers, and selling a few t-shirts to make a few bucks seemed like a good thing to do. We ran a few campaigns, we sold a few t-shirts- everything seemed fine. Our fans got their t-shirts, TeeSpring made the money, but they never paid us. Their payouts page says "payouts can take up to 4 days to process". When I requested the payout, their system sent me an email:. They paid 2 of th...
Flash Flood | The Jazz of journalists explains webflash
The Jazz of journalists explains webflash. Angry Unrelated Ranting: PSN. This has nothing to do with flash, though much to do with gaming, but this Playstation Network hackjob is making me angry. I really wish I could get a part of the law suit money. I really don’t know. Hopefully, my own card was lost in the cracks, and I mourn for anyone else in this annoying position. I’d rather not go bankrupt for a bunch of mask-wearing rejects. Geez. An exciting time in Flash gaming. Guess what just happened?
