Angler of the Month. Trout In The Classroom. The Chapter sponsors a trout nursery as part of the PA Fish Commission’s Cooperative Nursery Program. The Chapter’s nursery is located on the Mercer County farm grounds, 1 mile north of Mercer on Route 58 behind Avalon Springs. A lot of hard work turned an old slaughter house building into a home for over 1600 3-4 inch fingerling trout each year. Check out before and after photos of the nursery building. Friday, November 23, 2012. November: low water and beautiful days. This fall has been marked by low water and warm weather, not exactly the kind of stuff steelhead dreams are made of. There was one maybe two weeks of good fishing after the rains brought in by the remnants of Sandy, too bad I was trapped in the law library and didn’t have a chance to get out for the fun. The water was low and clear. I began by swing streamers as I worked my way down stream and indicator fished my way back up to the car.

Monday (9/17) was OK, the water was low and clear, but I caught a few small bass. Thursday, April 26, 2012. Last Time Out Before Lockdown. Before I get settled in studying for exams, I took an hour the other night to get a little fishing in on the Grand. The day was sunny, and cool between 50 and 55 degrees, the water was about the same temperature, and it was a tad windy out. The water was super low and clear running about 170 CFS, but I gave it a shot anyway. I had heard there were still some steelhead to be caught and a good number of lake run smallmouth. Sunday, October 21, 2012. Columbus Day Trout Marathon. I shot out of bed as the alarm rang at 5:40am. By 6:00am I was on the road headed to central PA. Three hours and forty-five minutes later I pulled into the fly shop to pick up some flies and get a fishing report. By 10:15 I was making the first cast. I began fishing streamers and hooked a few fish. Then I moved down stream to fish dries. I saw a sporadic rise or two, but couldn’t get any trout to rise. The fish was gone. This was a little different.
