Running a political party costs money (though we aim to keep costs down as much as possible by using online resources whenever we can). To qualify as a legal political party in Australia the Party needs to have 500 members as well as fulfil several other criteria. The easiest way to understand what is required is to download the Australian Electoral Commission's guidelines and forms. To summarise them briefly, the following requirements must be met:. Must be formed on the basis of a written constitution. Must have at least 500 members who are entitled to be on the Commonwealth electoral roll or one member who is a member of parliament.

Policy at Net Effect is formed a little differently from the usual Australian political parties. Our policy platform is a living, breathing entity, decided on by all the Members of Net Effect, not just a small caucus. We have only one stipulation at Net Effect - policy must be in line with the Party Constitution, our most important document and the one that defines us as a political party. We aim to be an open, tolerant party and as such have no time for those who would seek to disrupt those ideals.
