The ramblings and ruminations of romance author, Lynette Rees. Monday, July 20, 2015. Crafting the Historical Novel. Any well written novel needs to be researched, particularly an historical novel. If you get the details wrong, your readers are never going to let you forget about it. If cholera arrived in a particular year in a town, and you're just a year or two out with the date, believe me, someone will know about it. So you need to do your research. I think that just about sums it up. Research is...

My lovely writing friends with copies of my book, 'Black Diamonds'. I gave them the books as a gift as they've been very good and supportive friends to me this past few years. Rose and Pearl are the knitters of the group and over the past couple of years have made some beautiful jumpers, jackets and bonnets for my two-year-old granddaughter. The group has now been meet...
Nettie's Ramblings: January 2015
http://nettiesramblings.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
The ramblings and ruminations of romance author, Lynette Rees. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Another Great Review for 'Black Diamonds'. I was really pleased with this review for my upcoming historical romance, 'Black Diamonds'. Lynette Rees transports the reader into the era of coal mining in the South Wales Valleys of 1865 with a rare talent for producing an authentic atmosphere. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It will keep you reading through the day and night, as you will be unable to p...

Musings of a Historical Romance Writer. Join us on a journey of passion and adventure. Saturday, May 26, 2012. The Importance of Setting in Historical Romance. Previously, I explored a couple of the ways in which setting is crucially important when writing fiction in general. For this blog post, I’m going to be looking at its uses in the historical romance genre in particular. Other consistently favourite eras include medieval Scotland – the Braveheart. positive thinking: Storytime
http://positivewriter.blogspot.com/2006/10/storytime.html
Sunday, October 15, 2006. There was one particular cartoon I loved watching when I was a child. I think it's a Japanese production and the episodes were all about a particular bee called Maia and the other inhabitants of the woods. They're airing the episodes again on Italian TV and this morning, during breakfast the story of this particular episode, one I had never watched before, enchanted the writer in me in its perfect simplicity. Maia looks around for a solution and after much debate with her friend...

I had a funny dream last night. I say funny because my dreams are usually a reflection of what's been going on in my subconscious. Only yesterday, I told my dearest friend Belle that I need to start working on my second book no matter how busy or preoccupied I am with real life. My writing dreams have taken a back seat lately thro...

Sunday, October 23, 2005. The Greateast Thing about Writing. Just when you think you can't do it, an idea takes you by surprise. Each time I think of embarking on a writing project of some sort the first thing my inner critic says is, "Nah, you can't write that. You don't know how. You don't even have a plan.". A) the story theme. B) the protagonist's goal, motivation and conflict. C) the antagonist's goal, motivation and conflict (as opposed to the protagonist's). E) a proverb that summed up the ending.

Nettie's Photos
Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Close to my heart. All the wonderful people who give my life meaning and make me feel loved (in no particular order, just as I found the photos on my puter). And there are others whom I just don't have photos of, but you still mean a lot to me! Saturday, February 20, 2010. Perth got our very own big wheel down by the foreshore and a friend and I decided to have a ride one day. Message in a bottle. I guess the message here would be that people love to drink whilst at the beach.

Survive. Dive. Thrive. You were here, in force. December 28, 2016. I heard Carrie Fisher speak at my first Dragon Con in 2011. The line wrapped around the building. I don’t recall the details, except she was hilarious, self deprecating, and highly inappropriate. Seeing The Force Awakens last year was a collective nerdgasm. I know my biggest cheer went up when I saw Carrie as Leia, my first time on the big screen. But Carrie was so much more than Princess Leia; and so her legacy must be. 8220;The hearts I...
