Renovation tribulation | Neural Home
https://neuralhome.wordpress.com/2006/10/05/renovation-tribulation
One of the challenges of renovation is that you just do not know for sure what problems you may face until work starts. On this project we certainly face some unwanted challenges…. As the house had recently been rewired before we bought it I planned to re-use much of this, so I wasn’t ready for what greeted me beneath the floor boards. It is a chaotic mess and the joists look like swiss cheese rather than structural timbers … no pianos upstairs then. A will be a tremendously useful tool. Laquo; Previous ...
The work begins | Neural Home

The pictures show the transformation of one of the 2nd floor bedrooms, first ripping out the existing ceiling so that new SuperQuilt insulation could be installed. The ceiling was pulled down to allow insulation to be installed. The picture below shows the pod I had built that Idranet (yellow), door and window sensor (white) and light switch (grey) cables are routed to. This will eventually house an MFP or DFP. I am using the coloured band cable- labelling scheme. Space-age insulation plus a DFP pod.
Wrestling with conduit | Neural Home
https://neuralhome.wordpress.com/2006/11/12/wrestling-conduit
The prime aim of this stage of my home automation project is to build a future-proof infrastructure that will allow rich and flexible solutions to be added as time and finances allow. To this end I have used conduit extensively so that I can replace cables in the future without damaging the walls of rooms. What I have discovered is that such flexibility comes at a cost…. Conduit in eves on second floor, cables overlaid. Conduit now sealed behind the wall. All the cables to existing light switches are run...
From concept to cable plan | Neural Home

From concept to cable plan. Having decided on the end points at room level and termination, the next issue has been noting the different types of cable required for each purpose and the routes they would take, bearing in mind the requirements to keep mains cables and HA control and data cables separate and also separate from hot pipes, gas pipes etc etc. An image of the layout on the top floor of our house and some of the cables detailed follows. It shouldn’t happen to a HA installer | Neural Home
https://neuralhome.wordpress.com/2006/10/20/it-shouldnt-happen
It shouldn’t happen to a HA installer. This is about as pleasant as a vet helping a cow to birth. As immortalised by James Herriot’s books. So with that thought firmly in mind here are some more pics as the installation progresses to the first floor. The corner of the old kitchen that is destined to become Node-0. Cables dropped into the space where Node) will be to guage length. This entry was posted on Friday, October 20th, 2006 at 9:27 pm and is filed under Home automation. From your own site.
