Critical Mastication: Beet Salad with Candied Walnuts and Feta Cheese
http://criticalmastication.blogspot.com/2008/04/beet-salad-with-candied-walnuts-and.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Beet Salad with Candied Walnuts and Feta Cheese. Pretty, isn't it? Well, it didn't taste very good. I can't figure out if it was the beets or the fact that I used fat-free feta cheese, but it just didn't work for me. It was a salad with romaine lettuce, red cabbage, candied walnuts, feta cheese, beets and an orange vinaigrette. So I'm going to try and be more open and willing to post whatever the heck I want. There's no rules here, just the ones that I place on myself. Life in ...

Critical Mastication: One of my childhood comfort foods - Golden Curry
http://criticalmastication.blogspot.com/2008/03/one-of-my-childhood-comfort-foods.html
Thursday, March 20, 2008. One of my childhood comfort foods - Golden Curry. I remember stumbling upon a store that had all imported Japanese products in it when I was in college. It was like a window into my past. Nowadays my local grocery store sells things like Pocky. I've never spent time in japan, either as a child or as an adult, but i wouldn't kick that curry out of bed. It's kind of how i feel about italy and nutella.except that i go there every year or two and eat nutella all the time. heh. One o...

It was like a window into my past. Nowadays my local grocery store sells things like Pocky. Monday, March 10, 2008. I'm thinking it's the burnt milk-solids in the brown butter along with the molasses in the brown sugar that make them so dark and rich. The recipe can be found here. Critical Mastication: Delicious Meat Cubes! Who could ask for anything more?
http://criticalmastication.blogspot.com/2008/03/i-have-been-feeling-kind-of-uninspired.html
Sunday, March 2, 2008. Who could ask for anything more? I have been feeling kind of uninspired lately, at least food wise. I chalk it up to this time of year. Late February seems to be a month for hibernation and laziness. While I have been yearning to stay in bed 24/7, I have been really busy these past couple weeks. Anyway, enough excuses. I need to find a good rhythm with this blogging thing and I apologize for any lapses. The meat cubes consisted of cubed pork shoulder that was slowly cooked with gin...

Once, Twice, Thrice Baked Potatoes « My Husband Hates Veggies

Laquo; For My Nutty Husband – Butternutty Mac and Cheese. Once, Twice, Thrice Baked Potatoes. By Kitty, on December 4th, 2007. Kitty to Santa: I really really really want a new camera. With a food friendly flash. And maybe a tripod. Until that day comes, however, many-a-meal goes by without being chronicled. It’s not as if we stopped, eating. Or anything. Or are on diets. That would be crazy talk. But when I whipped up these Thrice Baked Potatoes last week, as a dinner side dish, I just knew. Use a teasp...

Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Bleeding Heart Cakes (well. sorta). Heres' the recipe I concocted, though I'm not sure how succesful it was. Red food coloring (a whole lot of it). 4 large egg yolks. 2 large egg whites. Beat egg yolks and 3 tablespoons sugar in large bowl until thick and light, about 2 minutes. Using small knife, cut ar...

Critical Mastication: Goblin Pie (dealing with bad apples..)
http://criticalmastication.blogspot.com/2008/03/goblin-pie-dealing-with-bad-apples.html
Friday, March 7, 2008. Goblin Pie (dealing with bad apples.). So the apples weren't bad really. I just tried to experiment with baking and failed. I had a feeling it wouldn't turn out well, but forged on for the sake of experience. The result. Well, less than photogenic. Pallid and kind of evil looking. I present to you, Goblin Pie! Ugly, ain't he? So, what do we do with bad apples? We throw them in the pit, yarrrrr! I read the heading and immediate thought PRISON! March 7, 2008 at 2:18 PM. I'll Never Go...

Never Going Back
Sunday, January 4, 2009. What Happens When Pearl Jam Doesn't Tour. I haven't died, but I have gone to heaven. Or at least Forks, Washington. The "blush of blogging newness" has worn, I suppose. I've missed the connection greatly! I have to see the movie every three days or I get a little twitchy - I'm up to 13 theatre showings. Read between the lines when I confess I've seen it another 6 times "out of the theatre". Whatever the reason, I've got it bad! What are we called, Twilighters? February 20-22....
nevergoingback | I did it, you can do it, let's do it together
I did it, you can do it, let's do it together. How I Got Here. This time of year is not really my favorite. Yes, the weather sucks, but that’s not really the problem. February 15 is the anniversary of my mom’s death. Four years ago she lost her battle with a nasty lung tumor that spread to her brain. And March 2 marked six years since my dad departed this earthly plain. He died of complications from congestive heart failure, which really was a complication of his lifelong alcoholism. What I have found is...

Never Going Back Now
Never Going Back Now. My Journey (Health, Faith, Wisdom). Sunday, August 30, 2015. Are you the egg, the carrot or the coffee bean? Are you the egg, the carrot or the coffee bean? In life, some people are like the egg, soft in the beginning, malleable, delicate. But when pressure (like boiling water or life's pressures) surrounds the egg, it gets harder and is tough, not malleable. These are the people who have a hardened heart thanks to the pressures of life. So which one are you? You need a revelation a...
