Return to Home Page. Stow-on-the-Wold is a charming market town standing proud on a hill thats 700 feet high. It was originally called Stow St. Edward or Edwardstow after the towns patron saint. At the height of the Cotswold wool industry the town was famous for its huge annual fairs where as many as 20,000 sheep were sold in one day.
