bits and pieces: return to my word - ただいま
http://lslo.blogspot.com/2013/04/return-to-my-word.html
Monday, April 15, 2013. Return to my word - ただいま. So why write a blog now? My new justification is this: it was never for the sake of readership. It was not and will never be a benefit to the reader or the world or anyone, except me. And the benefit to me is not the opportunity to vent or whine or boast. The true benefit is the exercise of writing. I am aware that there are writers among us, people who write everyday. But what about the rest of us? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

bits and pieces: Learn People
http://lslo.blogspot.com/2011/11/learn-people.html
Thursday, November 17, 2011. I must've read it somewhere, or perhaps some wise person spoke while I happened to be listening. "A person's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original shape." Seems true. But then why does it sometimes feel like we need to learn the same lessons over and over again, each time faltering in nearly identical ways. Does learning require hurt? A question arises inside me. How genuinely interested, or determined, am I to understand someone else?

the way i view it.: Timeless
http://ahobet.blogspot.com/2011/05/timeless.html
The way i view it. Bet's adventure through a viewfinder. Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Approximately 4 years ago I created this space. Since then my efforts have dwindled. with the first 2 years having 13 posts each, quickly dropping down to 4 posts in 2009, then 1 single post in 2010. Certainly there are always reasons and excuses that I can pull up. But in reality, in reality. why is it always so hard to maintain a passion? Why is it that one can do so much in the beginning, then let things dwindle down?

bits and pieces: April 2009

Monday, April 13, 2009. The Search for Meaning. It's everywhere. Money. There's so much, it spills. Garbage. Back and forth and all along the streets. The man is holding out his hat on the corner of Robson and Thurlow, smacking his lips, shifting from foot to foot as if he needs to pee, asking for money. or coffee? And I'm drinking it, sitting right inside. Green is the colour of envy. Green in the face, right before you vomit. Optimism. The best endure the worst. The hematologist at the hospital...Peopl...

Monday, August 12, 2013. Discourse Analysis, nice to meet you. This entry is from May 2013]. In English, as is I'm sure in many other languages, we commonly say things we don't mean. It's not that we intend to lie (sometimes we do). But we expect our audience to get the intended message, even if the literal meaning of what we are saying is different. Greetings are an obvious example. The grocery store check-out conversation of "how are you today? What does any of this have to do with medical education?

bits and pieces: "Higher" education
http://lslo.blogspot.com/2013/04/higher-education.html
Wednesday, April 17, 2013. In the course of today's reading, I came across this statement. I'll spare my comments and let Wiggins speak for himself. He writes that in higher education. Wiggins, G. (1990) The truth may make you free but the test may keep you imprisoned: Towards assessment worthy of the liberal arts, in: AAHE Assessment Forum, 1990b, Assessment 1990: Understanding the Implications. bits and pieces: May 2013
http://lslo.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 1, 2013. So I like to make things, physical things. The subjects are by no means serious important things. They are simply things I like. My first attempt involved using a wooden core, with numerous holes drilled into it to reduce weight. This was later abandoned for being too heavy still. The other components were shaped from insulation foam. Appearing behind the sword is a wooden dummy. So it was onto attempt number two. The edges were extended and finished with Bondo, as necessary.

bits and pieces: The Need to Write
http://lslo.blogspot.com/2011/10/need-to-write.html
Tuesday, October 4, 2011. The Need to Write. People removed, perceived to be alone in the room, the tears start to run, the screams tear through the air, the laughing and giggling roll and fizz without restraint. And after it all, the remaining hollow expands inside, scraping at the walls of my caffeine stained stomach. Insatiable. You can only feed it by purging more. This is a good one. not at all melancholy. welcome to the vigour of life. October 6, 2011 at 11:40 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
