MARTE SZIRMAY: SMIRNOFF SCULPTURE. OTHER NEWMARKET PUBLIC ARTS. Aluminum (2.6x4.9x2.0m). Lumsden Green, Newmarket, Auckland. A sculpture by Marte Szirmay, commissioned to commemorate the centenary of Newmarket becoming a Highway District, was unveiled by the Minister of Housing, the Hon Duncan Rae in October 1969. The sculptor said in the Auckland Star that the 2.5 metre aluminium sculpture was ‘designed to reflect the lights and movement of the borough.’.
