Pectus Excavatum

To learn about more hypotonia and other hypotonic babies, click here. This has nothing to do with hypotonia, but it needs some recognition! I have what is called Pectus Excavatum. PE for short). This is sometimes referred to as "funnel chest". The breast bone sinks in and can cause the heart to be displaced and the lungs to be compressed. It becomes more noticeable as growth spurts occur. It also gives the appearance of a pot belly. (See my pot belly?

When I was about 7 months old, my Mommy started to worry that I wasn't a "normal" baby. (But, in my defense, who really is normal anymore? That is great progress for a low tone child! My fine motor skills and speech aren't so great right now, but we're working on them! Now that I am 3, I will be going to preschool in the fall! Running in the park! Speaking of choosing a special mom.

Mommy was a little concerned about my slightly crinkled ear, but the pediatrician told her it was nothing to worry about. A few things happening around here. Tomorrow is a big day for Garrett. He will have an ultrasound of his heart. We have to be there at 7:30am, and he will be under anesthesia so that he holds still. Look at me.the slacker! Garrett is now 7 years old and in 2nd grade. He spends about 40% of his day in the resource room at school, but he seems to really thrive there. It is him, one other student, and the special ed teacher. He loves all the attention! Loves to drink water, and is usually very laid back about everything.
