Reflections on the news that makes the headlines…and the news that doesn't. Boston is no Baghdad. April 20, 2013. Four days after Boston a series of bombings across Baghdad took the lives of an estimated 100 people, injuring more than 240 others. The attacks barely featured in the news bulletins, which were focused on the manhunt for one of the suspects of the attacks in Boston. Bomb attacks in Baghdad are too common to be news-worthy, even if a hundred lives are ended. Blog at WordPress.com.

Around 2pm GMT yesterday it became clear that some form of deal had been reached to curb Iran’s nuclear programme. Today it emerged that US and Iranian diplomats had been engaged in secret talks for possibly more than six months ahead of the summit in Geneva: diplomacy is a slow process. Iran’s nuclear ambitions need restraining, not dashing.
