New Thing is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. New Thing was born in 1992 when Kristina Brendel volunteered as a photographer documenting humanitarian efforts to help the “children of Chernobyl” in Belarus. She continued serving in that country for 8 years; her husband Doug followed in 2000. Request photo reports & updates:.

Your love in action, in the former USSR. April 29, 2015. I told you about the 100 sick children, ages 7-15, at the boarding school in Glussk, Belarus. You can see the original photo report here. Friends of New Thing gave generously to provide closets and bedding for some of the children’s bedrooms. Money is so tight, the teachers hang all the wallpaper, and children sew all the curtains. For 23 long years, since Kristina first traveled to Belarus, we and our dear friends Oleg and Luda Yarovenko have longed for them to be allowed to visit us in America. It’s extremely difficult to get the U.S. State Dept. to approve any Belarusian for travel to the U.S. Oleg and Luda have been denied entrance visas before. They are free to visit America!
