History and Current Status. DMB occupies the sixth and seventh floors of the Simches Research Building on the main MGH Campus with over 40,000 net square feet with integration of its faculty within research groups in the new thematic centers at Simches. Drs. Hung, Szostak and Altshuler occupy space in MGH ‘thematic centers’ that are immediately adjacent to the core DMB space. Relationship to the Department of Genetics.

Michael Blower, Ph.D. Department of Molecular Biology. Boston, MA 02114. The Blower lab is interested in the intersection of microtubules, RNA, and mitosis. The primary focus is on understanding four major areas of RNA localization during mitosis:. What are the cis acting sequences and trans-acting proteins that recognize, transport, and anchor localized RNAs to microtubules during mitosis? How does localization of specific mRNAs to microtubules affect mitosis and development? Mike Blower attended Miami ...

Frederick Ausubel, Ph.D. Department of Molecular Biology. Boston, MA 02114. The responses by which multicellular eukaryotic hosts defend themselves from pathogen attack have only recently begun to be subjected to rigorous genetic analysis. This sort of analysis requires a tractable genetic system for the host and well-characterized host-pathogen interactions. Whereas vertebrates, with the possible exception of zebrafish, are generally unsuitable for such studies, Arabidopsis thaliana. Systems. The ra...
