So for any other moms out there wanting to make a batch of homemade playdough that is safe (in case a little gets into their mouths), cheap, and lasts a long time (up to 6 months in an air-tight baggie or container), here is the recipe I used (courtesy of The Preschooler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner. 1 TBSP vegetable oil. 1 TBSP cream of tartar. Macks on the Move. Saturday, April 11, 2015. Spring Break - Yosemite. Most hotels don't have rooms for families of 6, nor do they include breakfast in the cost. Narrow Gauge Inn. Had a room we could all stay in, as well as including a hot breakfast for all of us in the price! Macks on the Move. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Yesterday Randy took Isaac on his first backpacking trip, just a quick, easy, overnight trip to get a taste! Randy and Isaac have had weekends together camping, but not backpacking. Isaac was so excited! They decided to hike to Weaver Lake (a short 2-3 mile hike, depending on which trailhead you start from), and a destination Randy and I really enjoyed a few years ago (see that post here. So they probably hiked closer to 5 miles, but it's all good exercise, right?

Macks on the Move. Friday, March 25, 2011. These are parsnips. Obviously a root vegetable (meaning the part that you eat is the root, what grows underground), related to the carrot only white-ish in color. It is a bit sweeter than a carrot. And, when cooked, has a texture more like a potato. One of my favorite ways to cook these is with butter and syrup! First, peel them and chop them, just like carrots. So then you turn off the heat and drizzle a tablespoon (or two) of maple syrup over the parsnips.

Macks on the Move. Sunday, June 21, 2015. After a bit of stressful planning, (1) finding a place for our 8 kids to stay while we were gone hiking (4 of theirs, plus 4 of ours), and (2) figuring out sleeping arrangements as close to the trailhead as possible, ideally the valley floor, when people book rooms/tents for Yosemite months in advance, and we had only 7 weeks! So, on to the hike. Following the trail (switchbacks, granite steps, and cables) on the far side of Half Dome, looking from Glacier Point.
