Just another Monday… – The Mountain Lion
https://themountainlion.wordpress.com/2015/06/10/just-another-monday
From West London to the World. Just another Monday…. June 10, 2015. June 10, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. One year on and we are there again. Kaffu Bullom, a Chiefdom of Port Loko district. A wonderful Chiefdom on the peninsular, surrounded by the sea, home to the airport and numerous ferries and boat crossings to Freetown. If it were in England I would describe it as wooded but here we say it is covered in bush – high palm trees and huge cotton trees that monopolise the sky and the land. The daughter d...

From West London to the World. Mountains beyond mountains – Georgie heads East. October 25, 2015. We were drinking ale and reading the Sunday papers and when we left the pub it was raining. We didn’t really know what to do with our last day together. After spending most of the first year of our marriage apart we had now grown accustomed, over the last three months, to being together again. … More Mountains beyond mountains – Georgie heads East. Then I guess we’ll just begin again – The Mountain Lion

From West London to the World. Then I guess we’ll just begin again. July 7, 2015. July 7, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. Things don’t always end the way you’d like them to. Last week, Georgie came home and Liberia reported its first new cases of Ebola since being declared Ebola-free in May. For Liberia it was, perhaps, inevitable given the porosity of the borders between Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea but nevertheless it was a worrying and overwhelmingly sad development. We quickly forget how close we w...

From West London to the World. April 8, 2015. April 8, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. Imagine it is Christmas time or a birthday or something important and you want to get home to be with people you love and feel comfortable around. Time ticks by, stations pass. People get on and off but your excitement only builds. The countdown begins and you have about an hour to go to the final station. So close, you think, to home. Every one is frustrated and starts to stand up, walk around, sigh, tut, phone their fa...

From West London to the World. May 9, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. We sit here, in our London flat, Georgie and I. Georgie’s bags are packed and ready and we are getting set for the trip out to Heathrow and for Georgie’s final stint in Sierra Leone. It feels like a long time now since I left there in August. A very long time since we first began our adventures last year, an age since the start of this outbreak. Liberia declared Ebola free. Watch: Georgie talking about psycho-social response to Ebola.

From West London to the World. June 19, 2015. June 19, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. Here’s some film from our last day in Freetown, August of last year. Rex drove us around Freetown that afternoon. You can see his blue-gloved hands on the wheel in the video. It was a bittersweet day. We were excited to be going home to get married, nervous about the Ebola which by then was entering its deadliest phase, sad to be leaving a place that we had made home. We don’t know how lucky we are. Pure and simple. ...

OSM OMG! – The Mountain Lion
https://themountainlion.wordpress.com/2015/07/08/osm-omg
From West London to the World. July 8, 2015. By Ian Grundy Campbell. I’ve made about four attempts at writing this today and it’s proved surprisingly difficult. What, in the end, can you say about someone so amazing, hard working, caring and so utterly deserving of recognition? Nevertheless, I promised an update about something good and, finally and thankfully, here it is:. What a nice thing, to be sat on the tube with a secret excitement amongst the mid afternoon tourists. It was a fantastic moment.
