Just another WordPress.com weblog. Iceland – Day 12. Iceland – Day 12. Today was a day spent in Akureyri, Iceland’s second biggest town, and the ‘Capital of the North’ (pop. 17000). Went for a walk during the (wet) day. Wandered through the old part of town, then up and over the hill into the newer centre of town. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Iceland – Day 6. July 26, 2009. Day 6 – Skogar to Skaftafell. Reynisfjara – this was a holiday’s worth of sites all in one place. Basaltic columns, cave, black sand beach, rocky columns and archways in the sea. And Puffins flying all over the place over your head. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Iceland – Day 7. Iceland – Day 7. Fab breakfast at Hotel Skaftafell. Had a waffle maker for DIY waffles – managed to restrict myself to one, but filled up with the rest of the breakfast buffet on offer. The glacial lagoon was as impressive as advertised. Big lumps of blue tinted ice, floating in a lagoon. Ducks and seals bobbing about in between them. Then on to Arnanes V guest house near Hofn, arrived aroun 8:30pm. Feed You can leave a response. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Iceland – Day 10. Iceland – Day 10. The first excitement of the day was attempting the climb up the 18% hairpins to get out of the fjord area in a Yaris. Surprisingly easy in the end, only one scary bit when having to rev hard in 1st to get up a paricularly steep incline, but also worrying about spinning the wheels on wet gravel with a steep drop off the edge. But made it up with no problems. Went for dinner across the road at the local Hotel. Really good food again...

The road between the two biggest towns in Iceland is the best section of the Route 1, no single lane bridges or gravel sections to slow progress.
