Travelling with Camera Gear: A Billingham-Swissgear Combination | Nick Higham

https://nickhighamphoto.wordpress.com/2016/05/21/travelling-with-camera-gear-a-billingham-swissgear-combination

Photography and digital imaging. Travelling with Camera Gear: A Billingham-Swissgear Combination. May 21, 2016. The Billingham Hadley Pro, with the optional leather shoulder strap. For many years I travelled with my camera gear in a Lowepro Mini Trekker and my laptop, books, and so on in a briefcase. More recently I have switched things around and carry my (now mirrorless) camera gear in a Billingham shoulder bag, with my laptop and other items in a general-purpose rucksack. Without the green insert.

How to Pronounce “ISO” | Nick Higham

https://nickhighamphoto.wordpress.com/2016/06/17/how-to-pronounce-iso

Photography and digital imaging. How to Pronounce “ISO”. June 17, 2016. Fuji X-T1 ISO dial. For many years film speed, and more recently the amplification level of of a digital sensor, has been described by the ISO number. I have always pronounced ISO as “eye-ess-oh” and this is how I have generally heard others pronounce it. Recently, I noticed some people using the one-word pronunciation “eye-so”. One such person is Tony Northrup, who states in his book Stunning Digital Photography. But this is besides...

About | Nick Higham

https://nickhighamphoto.wordpress.com/about-2

Photography and digital imaging. I’m a photography enthusiast living in Manchester, UK. I took up photography seriously in 1995, and shot 35mm slides and negatives for several years. My first venture into the digital world came through scanning slides in 2000, at which point I started to use Photoshop. My first digital cameras were the Nikon Coolpix 990 (3 megapixels, 2000) and the Canon D60 (6 megapixels, 2002). The biggest my images have ever been printed was on a 6m long lenticular display.

Photography and digital imaging. Author Archives: Nick Higham. Tips on Low Light Photography. February 18, 2017. Last October I attended a weekend workshop “At Low Light” run by Simon Buckley. Simon is author of the Not Quite Light. Project, in which he captures cities at dawn or dusk. I thought I would document a few things I learned partly as a reminder to myself for the next time I try this type of photography. You will usually want shots that are sharp from front to back, that is, that have maximum d...

Photography and digital imaging. Refined Use of the Clarity Tool in Photoshop. May 8, 2016. Fountain in Charleston, South Carolina. Fuji X-T1, 18-55 lens at 34mm, f5.6 at 1/850 sec, ISO 200. Clarity 80 and Blend If. With an image in Photoshop, do one of these two steps. (In what follows I will describe keypresses for Windows; for the Mac replace “Ctrl” by “Cmd”.). If the image has only one layer then press Ctrl-j. This copies the base layer to a new layer. With Clarity 100 using Blend If. The trees a...

Applied mathematics, software and workflow. Posts at SIAM News. Newer posts →. Mathematics and Digital Photography. May 17, 2016. A few months ago I wrote a post Mathematics in Color. In which I discussed some mathematical aspects of color and showed how a simple change of basis from RGB color space to LAB color space can enable dramatic color changes to be done very easily. I’ve just launched a new blog on photography and digital imaging. Head over to the post Refined Use of the Clarity Tool in Photoshop.

Applied mathematics, software and workflow. Posts at SIAM Blogs. August 5, 2015. Anderson acceleration, also known in quantum chemistry as Pulay mixing or direct inversion in the iterative subspace (DIIS), is a technique for accelerating the convergence of a fixed-point iteration. It has been widely used in electronic structure computations, but does not seem to be well known to numerical analysts. Anderson’s original paper is from 1965 and is well cited, as Google Scholar shows:. Organized by Tim Kelley.

Saturday, October 4, 2014. This Is What It's About. When I first started blogging, I had no idea what I was doing. And that is a fact. I had no agenda, no plan, no goal, no intended audience, and honestly no good reason to be doing it. Posts were a haphazard mess of whatever I happened to be thinking about at the time and the blog layout competed with the the world's worst website ever. If you are reading this, chances are, you're one of those people. But through all of that - and I can say this honestly...
