We finished up with soils todayand we talked about cation exchange capacity is the ability of soil to retain cation nutrients. Humus and clay in soil are negatively charged and contribute to CEC in soil. Clay has some positive charge that holds phosphate among the anions. The others sulphate and nitrate get leached.
