I'm reading Dan Sicko's book on Detroit techno at the moment. It's making me consider the design used by the city's record labels. It's also making me listen to a lot of vintage Cybotron, Mayday, Model 500 and Reese. The 2010 edition of Dan Sicko's excellent book can be purchased here:. I will be moderating on that panel at Un-Convention at the People's History Museum on Saturday. Before that, I'm teaching on 'Introduction to Media', 'Introduction to Popular Culture' and 'Critical Thinking and Writing'. My teaching obligations have actually meant that I don't have time to do the classes that teach me how to teach this semester. I've had to postpone those until January. With all the research and teaching, I've missed doing "design" and, because I also prefer to explain ideas visually, I mocked up a Call for Papers poster to show to the rest of the team. I thought I'd stick it up here too. Previously the committee spent a decent part of the budget on colour copying.
