Kai Ken: The Tora Inu: May 2010
http://tora-inu.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 30, 2010. I went to Saitama today to attend a gathering of Kai breeders. We were all getting together since the spring Tenrankai season has ended. There were 10 of us all together, and for lunch our host prepared a great bento (Japanese for lunch box? I got to take a few pictures of our host's dogs. I decided to post some of this male named Musashi. He's the sire of a pup I sent to a friend in the States a fortnight ago. This is an aka-tora Kai (red brindle). Links to this post. My wife snapp...

Kai Ken: The Tora Inu: March 2010
http://tora-inu.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 22, 2010. So I know my blog is titled Tora Inu, but I've gotten another Kishu. She's a 3 year old female Kishu. Her previous owner decided he wasn't going to hunt, so though she's not a 'finished' dog, she's had some experience on pigs. I haven't taken her out yet but from what I've seen her drive is off the hook. Things are going crazy here at the moment. I've got the usual gang of Haru/Baron and now Momo, plus the Kai pups. Loads of fun, but loads of work. Links to this post. So we've got...

Kai Ken: The Tora Inu: November 2009
http://tora-inu.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 28, 2009. So I've thrown together my Japanese blog. It'll mostly serve as a hunting/training blog. Links to this post. Went hunting again the day before yesterday. All the tracks we could find were from at least 2-3 days earlier. Tried my 2 favorite areas (which most years no one hunts), but found nothing new. Even went to my pheasant spot at the end of the day to pick up another bird, but the pheasant were gone too. Links to this post. Wednesday, November 25, 2009. The Kai Ken standard.

Kai Ken: The Tora Inu: June 2010
http://tora-inu.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 23, 2010. To add about the other day. Momo is pretty amazing. After I got bowled over by the boar charging by, when it turned around to come back for me she came charging in an grabbed it before it got to me. Also, no one got hurt seriously, but after looking at the dogs last night I realized Baron's back leg was a little red where he got nipped, and Momo's side lost some fur and was a bit red where she got nipped. Doesn't seem to be bothering them at all though. Links to this post. The t...

Kai Ken: The Tora Inu: October 2010
http://tora-inu.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 24, 2010. NIPPO Chiba Regional (Fall 2010). Today was the NIPPO Chiba branch tenrankai (show). I got up at 5 and got all the dogs walked and fed. It was an overcast day, but luckily the rain held off till everything was done at around 2 in the afternoon. It was a great day all around, and I even had Haru tag along for fun. She got to meet and play with some of the other Kai there. Anyway, here are some pictures. A very rare yushoku Kishu Female. A very nicely balanced Kishu male. Kuro-gom...

We actively involve ourselves in several rescue groups and run a Nihon Ken rescue network. We are interested in saving every aspect of these wonderful breeds. Our dogs live with us on our ranch; it's our home, and our dog’s home. We live with all of our dogs, as a family. None of our dogs are kenneled in dog runs and all of them sleep indoors. Our home is located in the mountains in a remote region of the American Southwest. We recycle metal, paper, cardboard, and glass.
