Experiences from a small island in the East China Sea. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Today there was a solar eclipse in Asia. Here in Ojika, the sun was about 95% covered. It was cloudy, but we were able to catch glimpses of it as it broke through the clouds. This was the first solar eclipse I had ever seen, it was pretty amazing! Posted by Brett Rasmussen. I was a teacher at Sechibaru English Summer Camp, which is a Nagasaki prefecture program that brings upper level English students together for an intensive 10 day English-only experience. In college, inspired by a roomate, i started making mobiles out of seaglass and driftwood. Over the years these mobiles have morphed and changed. Here's a sampling of the work i'm doing today. My trash is on the curb, do i know where it goes? My clothes very likely made in inhumane circumstances. The products that i use toxic to myself, the earth. Drinking coffee from a paper cup. I try to eat local food. Use environmentally safe products. I wear my clothes until they fall apart. Today i realize it's not enough.

It has touched me at the core of who i am. This is important work. The schedule is crazy. grueling. confining. demanding. inconvenient. I wasn't sure i could handle the commitment. The work is fulfilling. fun. rewarding. a miracle. defining. It's what i am meant to do. I've never been so sure about anything in my life. Good for you April!
