Since it affects your chipset choice, the first thing is to talk about the different embedded OS options and their capabilities. The options range from real time operating systems (RTOS) to embedded Linux to many different flavors of Windows. The first question is what are you trying to accomplish? What’s your device going to be doing? Is it going to be doing communications? Over what type of radio? How are you doing security?
