Thoughts from a Bionic Lime: USCL Power Rankings Week 8
http://bioniclime.blogspot.com/2011/10/uscl-power-rankings-week-8.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. USCL Power Rankings Week 8. Very little change at the top of the power rankings this week - the top four teams maintain their position. Manhattan vaults over Dallas and San Francisco to end up in fifth. Boston and Miami also both make big jumps, while Baltimore falls four places to twelfth. New Jersey drags itself out of the basement, and St. Louis takes New Jersey's place there. United states chess league. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). USCL Power Rankings Week 9.

Thoughts from a Bionic Lime: USCL Season Simulation 2011 (end of Week 8)
http://bioniclime.blogspot.com/2011/10/uscl-season-simulation-2011-end-of-week.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. USCL Season Simulation 2011 (end of Week 8). Week 8 has ended, and another set of simulations has been completed. Unlike the midweek simulations, I only needed 100,000 runs for each division to get some interesting results. Once again, the chances that the team will make the playoffs, be in the top 2, and win the division. Here are the results (to three significant digits). Western Division (based on 100,000 simulations). Eastern Division (based on 100,000 simulations).

Chessbuff on Chess: November 2006
http://chessbuffsworld.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 12, 2006. It's obvious that black is a bit unfortable in this position. If only black could get his queen coordinated with his rook on a1, he might have some chances at counterplay via the a8-h1 diagonal. Now that his queen is under attack, Lasker had to find a way to get out of the line of fire of white's rook and still defend the knight on f8. Lasker played 47. Qd6. Capablanca delivered the crushing and game-winning move 47. Qf8! Then 48. Rh7. Mate Fritz suggested 47. Ra8. Discovered c...

Chessbuff on Chess: April 2006
http://chessbuffsworld.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 29, 2006. That advanced passed pawn on a7 looks very promising for white, but black can hold his own provided he doesnt fall victim to a well-known rook manuever in cases where a passed pawn is already one the seventh rank. Playing white, I had just played 33. a7. Preparing the sneak attack 34. Rf8. Then 34. Rf7. However, after 33. a7, it is black's move. Sensing all of the above, black played 33. Ke7. However, I played 35.ef , gf 36. Rh8! And black resigned. If 35. Kf6. In our chess jour...
