Narrow Pathways: December 2007
http://narrowpaths.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Saturday, December 29, 2007. Come visit me at my new blog site: Narrow Pathways. A Change in Plans. I have some thoughts concerning Mary and Jose. Ph’s flight to Egypt after Jesus was born. Traveling with a newborn certainly wasn’t in their p. They were just in Bethlehem to register for the census! They probably didn’t even have much. With them, because it was going to be a relatively short stay. Remind me that you are ...

Worship: Intimacy or Reverence? | Musings . . . Meditations . . . Meanings

Musings . . . Meditations . . . Meanings. Perspectives on Orthodoxy, Culture, and Music. December 29, 2008. Worship: Intimacy or Reverence? After 30 years in Evangelicalism (as a minister of worship and music), having misgivings about its direction, and now being away from it for a year, I suspect that in the evangelical churches, intimacy and reverence have identical meanings. Intimacy: the Essence of Worship. Intimacy: Emotional Manipulations by Music. This confusion of expressing feelings of intimate ...

Musings . . . Meditations . . . Meanings. Perspectives on Orthodoxy, Culture, and Music. December 31, 2008. Loving the Difficult Person. Never confuse the person, formed in the image of God, with the evil that is in him, because evil is but a chance misfortune, illness, a devilish reverie. But the very essence of the person is the image of God, and this remains in him despite every disfigurement. St John of Kronstadt. Laquo; Worship: Intimacy or Reverence? The Beauty of Holiness | The Path
https://restlessevangel.wordpress.com/2008/02/29/the-beauty-of-holiness
An evangelical Christian finds beauty, and just maybe, truth in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Beauty of Holiness. 8220;In these settings people are comfortable with other people as they enjoy fellowship with one another. What is often lost in these functional church designs is the profound sense of threshold. A threshold is a place of transition. It signals change from one realm to another. The Holiness of God. This was brought home to me recently when we had a rare classical prelude before our Sunday...

Holiness and Humility | Musings . . . Meditations . . . Meanings
https://allenmusicman.wordpress.com/2008/06/11/holiness-and-humility
Musings . . . Meditations . . . Meanings. Perspectives on Orthodoxy, Culture, and Music. June 11, 2008. I have a theory: as we grow in holiness, we grow in humility. This holiness is much more than moral choices. It is a character transformation that the Lord makes in us. Others can experience these qualities in our lives, but they remain hidden from our sight. Much more can be written about this. In the future, I hope to post more thoughts. Thank you for visiting my musings. . . Enter your comment here.

A Presbyterian Mystic | The Path
https://restlessevangel.wordpress.com/2008/02/25/a-presbyterian-mystic
An evangelical Christian finds beauty, and just maybe, truth in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Here’s an idea that crops up from time to time. I don’t have to actually become Orthodox. I can continue to attend occasional Vespers services and a Divine Liturgy from time to time, read Orthodox books, take up praying to icons and do other Orthodox type things around the house like burning incense. If only it was that easy. Trying to be a Presbyterian mystic is a recipe for misery. Laquo; Jammin For Jesus.

About | The Path
https://restlessevangel.wordpress.com/about
An evangelical Christian finds beauty, and just maybe, truth in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Christ said you would know them “by their fruit.” After five years immersed in the evangelical world, I’ve become increasingly disenchanted by the unfruitfulness I see, mostly in myself, but also amongst my fellow low church Christians. This is especially noticeable with those in my mid-forties demographic, which seem to be a vanishing breed in the evangelical wilderness. Upon returning, I tried very hard to leav...
