Extending boundaries with endurance cycling: November 2014
http://andrewendurancecycling.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Extending boundaries with endurance cycling. Thursday, 13 November 2014. A provocative title, but warranted! My last four long-distance races had DNF (did not finish) rates ranging from a third to a half. Any long-distance cyclist needs to take this very seriously. Efforts to reduce your chances of a DNF are not all mental. You need to have good training, good race plans, good equipment including spares, good support, and ideally a bit of experience. However, my focus here is on that mental side. I’...

Extending boundaries with endurance cycling: April 2014
http://andrewendurancecycling.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Extending boundaries with endurance cycling. Saturday, 19 April 2014. Helen took this video of me about 24 hours after the ride. She reckoned I always forgot how bad I felt after a ride,. So was taking this as evidence for future use. It does give. A good idea of what I looked like! So how does riding a 1,010 km course over a 53.5 hour period affect the body? Wrists. Both wrists were painful while riding. I think they recovered fairly quickly though. My guess is that the best prevention is to...Sweating&...

Extending boundaries with endurance cycling: The 600 km "Gentle Littl' Ride"
http://andrewendurancecycling.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-600-km-gentle-littl-ride.html
Extending boundaries with endurance cycling. Thursday, 30 April 2015. The 600 km "Gentle Littl' Ride". Whoever named this the Gentle Littl' Ride has a great sense of humour. If “little” is a 600 km ride, then no-one would be surprised to find that “gentle” was to be a whopping 8,000 vertical metres of climbing. And yet 8 of us signed up! Tim and Naresh at start. After a while Naresh left us, slowly disappearing into the distance. I stayed on with Tim, who is a friend I've know a number of years. ...After...

Extending boundaries with endurance cycling: To the Bay 600
http://andrewendurancecycling.blogspot.com/2015/06/to-bay-600.html
Extending boundaries with endurance cycling. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. To the Bay 600. First light in the Wairarapa. 8220;Fuck this for a joke! 8221; - my unspoken thoughts as I ended the 400km “Whanganui Rapids” ride. Yet here I was, just three weeks later, about to begin the even longer 600km “Off to the Bay” ride. I've no idea what drew me to the start. Nick Dunne probably hit the nail on the head when he said it was who I was, or at least – my spin! I was going to use this ride as a race practice, but w...

Extending boundaries with endurance cycling: May 2015
http://andrewendurancecycling.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Extending boundaries with endurance cycling. Thursday, 14 May 2015. The Whanganui Rapids 400. Thanks to Naresh Kumar for the photo). A 400 km ride that included the Whanganui River and other beautiful central North Island areas – what wasn't there to like about that! Well … um . more on that later. I should have turned left after the bridge. So back I went and took the road I should have taken. At last, almost 15 km from the start, I was turning off the highway and onto the Whanganui River Road. Yay!
