Building an Ingress Table with Flowhub - Henri Bergius in Berlin, Germany
http://bergie.iki.fi/blog/ingress-table
Building an Ingress Table with Flowhub. The c-base space station. Mdash; a culture carbonite and a hackerspace — is the focal point of Berlin's thriving tech scene. It is also the place where many of the city's Ingress. Agents converge after an evening of hectic raiding or farming. In February we came with an idea on combining our dual passions of open source software and Ingress in a new way. Jon Nordby. In Oslo had recently shown off the new full-stack development capabilities. Before the actual hackat...

Flowhub Kickstarter delivery - Henri Bergius in Berlin, Germany
http://bergie.iki.fi/blog/flowhub-kickstarter-delivery
It is now a year since our NoFlo Development Environment. Kickstarter got funded. Since then our team together with several open source contributors has been busy building the best possible user interface for Flow-Based Programming. When we set out on this crazy adventure, we still mostly had only NoFlo. And JavaScript in mind. But there is nothing inherently language-specific in FBP or our UI, and so when people started making other runtimes compatible with the protocol. To our Kickstarter backers.

Bringing documents back to life

Bringing documents back to life. The general process of epidemiological research is as follows. First the academic asks a question and hopes to answer it by doing some calculations. These calculations are usually done with various software tools, R, SPSS, SAS, Python, Excel, all intermingled with data, and spread out over several places. But the iteration in search of the desired results keeps the process alive. This is a problem. Because how do you now test if the results are still valid with, for e...

Elixir Flow-Based Programming: July 2015
http://www.elixirfbp.org/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 17, 2015. Below is the heart of a new version of the Subscription module: the loop function:. Notice that when a pull request is received, all of the processes that are currently executing the Publisher component are sent a request. When the responses to these requests begin arriving back, each response is sent to one of the Subscriber component processes in a round-robin fashion. Unless otherwise specified, the default number of processes spawned per component is one. How does this all work?

The IoT will redefine "Open" | gnobits.com
http://gnobits.com/blog-post/iot-will-redefine-open
Skip to main content. What's a gnobit? The IoT will redefine Open. Mike Loukides' excellent article, Toward an open Internet of Things is a "must read". He fearlessly addresses the simple truth; without true interoperability there will be no IoT. Please read his article. And then come back and let's explore the concept of an open IoT even further. You're back? For what it's worth, I'd like to add the following concerns:. Open to safe development: As last Friday's ruling. Sat, 05/10/2014 - 19:20.

I don't want to be a Real Programmer - Anas Ambri's website
http://verybadalloc.com/blog/2014/03/18/i-dont-want-to-be-a-real-programmer
I don't want to be a Real Programmer. You can discuss this post on Hacker News. Today, I came across this blog post. By Nicholas Cloud, where he makes the case of branching out of programming as a means of becoming a better programmer. According to him, playing with the hottest new technology or language won’t make you a better programmer; it will simply allow you to learn new tools. This very fact resonated quite a lot with me, considering how frustrating it can be to see. And can’t have enough. Makes m...

Asynchronous Javascript – the tale of Harry | Bruno's Ramblings

A freethinker's view on programming. Objects and Values – A conceptual model. Currying the callback, or the essence of futures… →. Asynchronous Javascript – the tale of Harry. January 9, 2011. Before telling you about Harry, I’ll start with a short account of what I went through recently so that those who know me from long ago can understand how I ended up being involved in asynchronous Javascript development, and what that means. We quickly switched to Narwhal. So we ended up making the switch in the sp...
