Advice for the Thrifty Traveler
Vaya Pues: August 2011
http://nolanandnicki.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Advice for the Thrifty Traveler. Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Eating in Honduras can be tough. Peace Corps tells you that everyone thinks they have the best site by the time they leave. We weren’t sure about La Esperanza when we first got here, it was smaller than we had hoped for, although it was nice and cold. But now, after more than a year, we would definitely say that we think we have the best site. It’s because of the food. Best Farmers’ Market in Honduras. Carrying home our leche de vaca. Here are ...
Vaya Pues: September 2011
http://nolanandnicki.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Advice for the Thrifty Traveler. Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Medical Brigade, Reconnect, and a Birthday Party. Hanging out at lunchtime. Two adorable kids whose pregnant mother Nicki saw. Host family with the new baby. Not sure what's going on here. After Dora had been brutally attacked, the older kids continued to antagonize the others by climbing into a tree and throwing handfuls of candy from extra bags they had, just to watch them scramble and shriek we suppose. It was one of the few Honduran ce...
Vaya Pues: Center of the Inka Empire
http://nolanandnicki.blogspot.com/2012/04/center-of-inka-empire.html
Advice for the Thrifty Traveler. Monday, April 16, 2012. Center of the Inka Empire. Plaza de Armas from our hotel room. We ended up having to get a Boleto Turistico. Or tourist ticket, that was good for 16 different sites in and around Cuzco. At S.130 it was really expensive, but absolutely necessary since many places included either don’t sell separate tickets or are so expensive separately that it’s worth it to the boleto. Still functioning ceremonial springs at Tambomachay. Are served with a slice of ...

Advice for the Thrifty Traveler. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Welcome to American Confections hosted by Nicki Sandberg. They were talking about all the possibilities for it – make it for kids for their merienda. Mid morning snack) or use it as a birthday cake. Success! Back to the cookies….they liked how fast the cookies came out, 7 quick minutes, and each scarfed down a few before taking the rest home for their families. Success! Thursday, July 14, 2011. Copan Ruinas At Last. Landslides) than can be counte...
Vaya Pues: Autobusni in Croatia - A Guide to Getting Around

Advice for the Thrifty Traveler. Saturday, June 21, 2014. Autobusni in Croatia - A Guide to Getting Around. In general we found the bus service to be extremely well organized, on time, and affordable. We were traveling in May, which is just before tourist season (June-August), so our observations may not be true for high season. Time and Price Estimates. Trieste (Italy) to Rovinj: 14.60 Euro, 3 hrs. Rovinj to Pula: 64 kuna, 45 minutes. Rovinj to Rijeka (via Pula): 140 kuna, 3 hrs. If you buy a round trip...

Howdy from Honduras: Days Like Yesterday...
http://robertsx2.blogspot.com/2011/11/days-like-yesterday.html
The Roberts' Peace Corps Journey in Honduras. Saturday, November 19, 2011. Are why we are Peace Corps Volunteers. Whereas Wednesday was a bit frustrating, yesterday felt like a golden moment of development and progress. It wasn't perfect, but the seedlings were doing very well, and the neighbor whose yard they were using owns a restaurant and plans to add the veggies into the daily lunch she serves! I thought such progress would only come near the end of our service, but it was incredible!
Howdy from Honduras: March 2011
http://robertsx2.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
The Roberts' Peace Corps Journey in Honduras. Sunday, March 20, 2011. A note - this one is backdated. We've been here for quite a bit now, and this is really the first opportunity to sit down at MY computer. Lauren's been hogging the little internet that we actually have. She's an internets thief. Anyway, this was written a few days after we'd been here. We also flew over Cuba. I waved at Raul. Anywho - it's an interesting ride, and on my next trip in, I'm going to film it. Or maybe somebody can find...

The Roberts' Peace Corps Journey in Honduras. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Christmas in July, Part Tres! Continued from the last post. Since the boxes my mom sent were also from other people, including Joyce and Megan, I'm not quite sure who sent what. but I think Joyce sent the some of the seeds, art supplies and The Week, thank you! I'm proudly sporting sweatpants and a fleece lined hoodie as I write this. so much better. Enough art supplies to outfit an army of child artists. yay! So, this post goes out t...

My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Since my last update, I have been unbelivably busy (warning: long post), and I am definitely getting into the swing of things with work. Of papers sitting before us! Plus the staffs of the 2 bilingual schools, myself, and my sitemate, and we are going to be overflowing with gringos for the next 2 months! Yesterday I gave an HIV charla to a group of high school age students with the two volunteers from La Esperanz...
Andrea in Honduras: April 2011
http://andreainhonduras.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Sunday, April 17, 2011. Things are still going well here, although it doesn't feel like I have much to report. But they liked us, and we had a decent amount of fun. We also did a business project on tourism this week, where we visited a few attractions and camped at a balneario, which was basically a fake beach. It was nice, and we played sand soccer and volleyball, which killed our feet but was very fun. Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Anyway,...

My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Thursday, July 28, 2011. Dear taxi drivers in Teguz,. I just got out of a taxi. I don't want another taxi. If I did, I would not be getting out of this one. Stop bombarding me. SHUT UP. For the love of god. It is 2am. Dear host family,. French fries are not the same food group as sandwich bread. When I have amoebic dysentery and ask for pan sandwich, please do not bring me papas fritas. Dear dog shrouded in fleas,. Dear kid on bicycle,.

My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. It's hard to believe I've been in Honduras over 6 months! Time has really been flying, especially recently. I just got back to site after a longer-than-planned vacation out west. I went for the weekend, but ended up getting another bout of amoebas and had to stay longer (trust me, you do NOT want to take a bus down a bumpy dirt road when you have a stomach parasite! Me: Yes, I am here! So if you disappear for a...

Andrea in Honduras: Do not pass go, do not collect $200
http://andreainhonduras.blogspot.com/2012/01/do-not-pass-go-do-not-collect-200.html
My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. I'm not gonna lie, the past few weeks have been very difficult. We are restricted in what we can do and have been getting limited information about the next steps. We are being asked to leave this country that we now call home, without warning or closure. Pepe Lobo came to town for his birthday, and we got to meet him again. They also taught us how to make tamales. Jessica's ...

My adventure as a business development volunteer with Peace Corps. Monday, June 25, 2012. I was lucky enough to have a nice last few weeks in Otoro with my host family and friends, and also to have both of my training host families visit during our closing conference in Tegus. I am so glad to have had such wonderful families and to have been able to say goodbye to everyone, and now the pictures are finally up (oops! My Yuscaran host family - Damaris, Claudia (Merii), Riccie, Sandra, and Jose.

I just found this draft I had started during Dane's battle with RSV/pneumonia at 2 months old and thought it would be a good point at which to start counting my blessings this month (it's not complete by any means, but it will have to do.). And maybe, just maybe I will find the time and energy to post regularly someday. Life wouldn't be complete without our tough, charming little Dane. He's a delight to his mama. Dane's case has not been classic at any point, but he's really surprised me this time. We to...

And then there were Four. Saturday, September 3, 2011. Welcome my little Peanut. I have a wonderful friend that does photography so a few weeks after Blake was born I decided to do some family shots. This by far is my favorite picture. Since Blake was born Riley and Blake have been the best of buds. I love it! I love this picture too. Aside from the first few weeks of his life Blake really isn't a crier. So when he does he makes the cutest face. Can't you just eat him up? Posted by The Palmer Family.

Wednesday, June 13, 2012. 6 months can make! I wrote this May 4th. and forgot to post it. ). A little over 6 months ago, Liam was discharged from the children's hospital at UNC Chapel Hill. Having Nolan home, for almost 3 months now, has been so wonderful! He has continued to work/fly a lot since he got home, but to have him be able to come home for lunch and come home at night (unless he is on duty or out of town for a few days) has been such a blessing! Now a solid 5lbs in 8 months time! We continue to...
Nolan's Rants
Where I intermittently post the ramblings of the voices in my head. Friday, November 10, 2017. Taylor Strays From Her "Reputation": Bland, Listless Record Ensues. It's insufferable to quote one's self, but watch me as I do it anyway. After my first listen of Taylor Swift's newest album Reputation. I went back and re-read my review of 1989. Now she's chosen to forgo actual musical instruments altogether. Take, for instance, the album's second track, "End Game." It features rappers Future and Ed Sheera...
