My oldest, Jackie, should be starting Kindergarten tomorrow at the great elementary school down the street from us. Instead, she is staying home waiting two weeks before she starts Kindergarten in Cairo. It's bittersweet for me. The bitter- her best friend is starting Kindergarten tomorrow, along with her other friends, and all the familiar that Jackie is used to will no longer be. Such is the life of an expat kid.

We had lots of sightseeing planned in the next few days but are now taking it day by day depending on the situation here in Cairo. For now, the U.S. Embassy is advising all American citizens to avoid public gatherings and mosques at least through the weekend. After that we shall see. January 27, 2011 at 12:11 PM. We are all still feeling reverse culture shock, which can be pretty funny. The littlest things make them happy, like H-E-B and "real" commercials. We are currently holed up in our hotel- two adults, three kids, 10 pieces of luggage, 1 set of golf clubs, two laptops, five carry on bags, and menagerie of small stuffed animals. The room is a bit crowded, the kids are restless, Ariel and I are stressing out, but finally, FINALLY, we will be on our way to Cairo soon. Goodbye Texas, we will miss you.
