Knitting on the eastern edge of North America. Travelling yarns, part deux. September 6, 2016. September 6, 2016. My knitting and I recently spent two weeks in Sete, in the south of France and Barcelona, Spain. Not that that’s a bad thing. So of course we got to talking. Why they were a) knitting in the 30-d...

Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Wednesday, February 18, 2009. While in St. John's. I wanted to visit a couple knitting related places. On Monday, Stacey and I ventured over to Wool Trends. It's a local yarn shop that ( unbeknownst. To me) has been in existence for 11 years. I guess it's true that you don't notice something unless it's relevant to you. From the outside, the store looks like a house. But it's much more than that. it's basically 2 1/2 floors of yarn, yarn and more yarn! But again, it...

Knitting on the eastern edge of North America. March 8, 2017. St John’s has gone curling crazy. The 2017 Tim Hortons Brier,. Aka the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship, has slid into town. Like most cold weather activities in Canada, the athletes and most of the fans have long abandoned hand-knit clothing for technical sportswear. Knitting, however, is still proudly tangled up in Brier traditions. A bit of background first…. First, the curling sweater. It’s an iconic piece of Canadian winter wear. Here’...
