Walks around the village of Nonington, Kent. October 19, 2016. Just five people and one dog joined us on the monthly walk. We walked up Butchers Lane and along Cold Blow then down Cherry Garden Lane to pick up the footpath which goes around the back of the BruderHof farm and then across Beauchamps field to see the 2 newly born calves – 3 and half miles in beautiful weather. We met at the cafe in Elham and completed just over 4 miles through wind, rain, sunshine and hail – but enjoying a varied landscape of hills, valleys, woods and deep cut lanes, and some very early bluebells. Walks around the village of Nonington, Kent. The Step Tree in Fredville Park. We organise guided walks once a month. The walks are more a social ramble than a fitness hike. They are circular and use the footpaths and lanes in and around Nonington. They last around 2 hours. The next walk will be on Wednesday 15th February with a 10am start. We meet at the phone box opposite the Royal Oak in Nonington and all are welcome. The routes of previous walks are available on the Self-guided Routes page.

Walks around the village of Nonington, Kent. November 14, 2015. It was a wet November walk for 8 walkers and one dog but we got some fresh air and exercise and enjoyed a chat on the way round. I’d been out the day before and found many wild flowers still flowering! They seek him here , they seek him there but I spotted the scarlet pimpernel ( poor man’s weatherglass ) still flowering. Local wildlife (photos by Mike Vurley). From being confined to central Wales in the 1920s, reintroduction programmes beginning in 1989, led to them breeding in both England and Scotland in 1992. Now we see them regularly around Nonington. These photos , taken on the Chillenden side of the village, are of two juveniles that successfully fledged locally. Aconites flower from January until April. They are perennials with six yellow sepals above a ring of leaves. They sometimes form carpets on woodland floors. These were photographed in Beauchamps Wood at the edge of the path in February. These primroses were photographed near the village pond in early April.
