Noodles and Lattes: August 2013
http://noodlesandlattes.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Laying foundations in Hong Kong. Monday, 26 August 2013. If the average 40 year old Japanese banker wears khaki trousers, a button down shirt and boring shoes on a Saturday when going for lunch with his wife, then why does he wear a Nike cap, Nike Airs, white shorts and a Lycra t-shirt on "casual Fridays" at the bank? Due to it being, well, the middle of summer, the CEO sensibly suggested that employees might "dress casually and not wear a suit or tie" to avoid total meltdown. Saturday, 17 August 2013.
Noodles and Lattes: November 2012
http://noodlesandlattes.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Laying foundations in Hong Kong. Wednesday, 28 November 2012. As more and more of our friends have babies, I notice that my heart skips a beat every time I mention their little offspring. I'm terrified I've got the baby's name wrong. I'm not usually bad with names, but this onslaught of new arrivals is a bit much for my tiny tiny brain, and not good for my nerves either. Noodles and Lattes: August 2012
http://noodlesandlattes.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Laying foundations in Hong Kong. Sunday, 19 August 2012. I could not believe the sheer number of ants walking up and down our living room last week. The minute T left on holiday, they must have spotted their opportunity to settle in. Every night I would come home and find an entire village of them eagerly waiting for me. They weren't interested in food but were unusually social and only liked to congregate in places near my feet. Shudder. Of course I should have seen this coming. We walk in and there...
Noodles and Lattes: Lawn games
http://noodlesandlattes.blogspot.com/2013/05/lawn-games.html
Laying foundations in Hong Kong. Sunday, 19 May 2013. Last week at my brother's house in Canada, as I was stacking chicken skewers for our afternoon lunch in the sunshine, I let my mind wander to thinking about the bucolic bliss of living in the country and how I could just see myself making my own jam and maybe having a Lab or two who would fetch tennis balls from the end of the garden. Noodles and Lattes: Secrets
http://noodlesandlattes.blogspot.com/2014/03/secrets.html
Laying foundations in Hong Kong. Thursday, 6 March 2014. My absence can be explained. Much like a cat with a large tropical bird in my mouth coughing feathers, I've been holding onto a secret to the point that I could burst. Baby number 1 is on the way. But can I say that secrets and food really don't mix. Case in point - Christmas this year was probably my worst Christmas ever. The home cured gravalax didn't help either. 7 March 2014 at 00:09. Oh my, congrats, G! 20 March 2014 at 19:25. Cheap michael ko...

Bloomin' marvelous: September 2011
http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Friday, September 23, 2011. As I sit in an unusual moment of calm on the sofa with no Boy (out doing a swimming race), no rowing or paddling (because Boy is out doing a swimming race) and Eve still asleep at 8am for reasons best known to the sleep fairies and not to be questioned, I am looking at our rather elderly cat fast asleep on the rug. My Mum suggested that I write to...
Bloomin' marvelous: Small victory
http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2011/12/small-victory.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Thursday, December 15, 2011. For the first time in over a month I went to the gym at lunchtime today. The ergo has a lovely view of HK harbour, in fact it probably has one of the best views in the world from a rowing machine, and as I was pulling away I wondered whether it was worth paying the ridiculous monthly fees just to be able to pop in from time to time.
Bloomin' marvelous: School Mums
http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2012/09/school-mums.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Friday, September 7, 2012. Eve, of course, trotted off to school on the school bus on the first day with no problem at all and has settled right in. I, however, have not. It isnt much better in the UK - turns out Im the only Mummy who works in my daughters class so our nanny and my husband have done the last two things that needed a parent. After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Sunday, March 27, 2011. On a cold damp day in HK. We had such good fun, seeing new bits of HK and not quite knowing where our adventure would take us. Definitely one to do again. On the same weekend as some half a million british turned out in London to demonstrate against the cuts, Hong Kong had a similar demo going too. Friday, March 18, 2011. Dear germs, again. I would li...
Bloomin' marvelous: July 2011
http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Monday, July 4, 2011. I'm a permanent HK resident now. This means that I can live and work here without needing a visa (yey), I can vote (double yey) and I have been here 8 whole years (shit, that went fast). It doesn't mean I can get a school place though! What will I do with all my spare time now? I was thinking of Chinese classes. To other Mums (and Dads). If I was any ot...

http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2012/09/you-know-youre-old-when.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Sunday, September 9, 2012. You know you're old when. At 530am you decide to do yoga and listen to Classic FM rather than go to boot camp. In my defence, this came after my last huge week of training before my race in Hawaii and I could barely move - another sign of age, muscles ache and tighten and get sore the more you punish them). Bloomin' marvelous: June 2011
http://bloominmavelous.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
After annoying my friends with my stories, they suggested I start a blog about the trials and joys of being a new mum in Hong Kong. Thursday, June 2, 2011. In HK it has been pretty easy to ignore the Royal Wedding. There was an etiquette class in a local shopping mall run by a Kate-look-alike shipped over from the UK, but if one didn't watch the BBC then there wasn't much about it. We forgot it was even happening until I popped on the news after Eve had gone to bed and saw "the kiss". She seems, within r...

The Conscience of a Limousine Liberal | Wall Street Refugee
https://wallstreetrefugee.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/the-conscience-of-a-limousine-liberal
Just another WordPress.com weblog. The Conscience of a Limousine Liberal. May 11, 2010. I spent many days and nights in this building for the past three years. Nearly everyone knows my story by now because I have been selling it as a marketing pitch to get people to read my blog: I quit my job on Wall Street to live in Uganda, the pearl of Africa. The gospel of microfinance as the savior of the poor, however, has been thus far unconsummated in Uganda at least. Then he asked: What I will like to know is n...

Monday, 27 January 2014. Why Meester Bond, I've been expecting you. Warning - Very limited metaphor approaching - take cover* *. Last week I was away on the Good Book Company's Bible Centred Youthworker conference. I go every year, and every year it's excellent. I suppose I could write a review of the whole thing, but that's not what this is about. What's the one thing you know for certain when you watch any Bond film? You know that Bond will live (spoiler alert). Actually no, I think we're like new Bond...

Noodles & Ketchup: A day in our life
Noodles and Ketchup: A day in our life. July 27, 2015. July 27, 2015. I really need to blog more often. So much has happened. The week after the last visit with Levi’s team, they called and said that his hyper sexuality had worsened even more and would have to be moved as soon as possible. First, we thought it would be a place in Missouri, but he was too young. Then he was accepted at a place in Fayetteville. I’m staying here, in Fayetteville for the time being. He needs me. Even though I a...He’s ...

Going Pro in Indonesia. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. The Cremation of ‘my Auntie’ in Lovina. April 25, 2015. 8220;What on earth is happening here? 8221; my father and I are wondering while watching a crowd singing and playing music on the village square in Lovina, a quiet fisher’s village in northern Bali. Next to the singing crowd, a huge square had been built on which two gas bottles were attached, and huge huge flames were coming out from under an iron plate. Ketut: “Yes, ...

Simple, tasty, healthy recipes. Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Very easy healthy soup, contains no artificial ingredients. Chicken pieces, preferably with a lot of bones in it, I used the leg pieces: 250 gms. If this is the main meal, then make it 500 gms and double all quantities. A big handful of sweet corn, or more, as you wish. 6 – 7 big cloves of garlic (mildly crushed). A big piece of ginger (crushed). A few pepper corns coarsely crushed – you can always add more pepper later if you want. Super easy, a...
