Yard shot that I could probably model from. And it would be amusing to model the Frisco system. Sunday, July 8, 2007. Getting back into model railroading. I've been a train fan since I lived a few blocks from the Southern right of way. In Memphis, Tennessee, near what was at the time Memphis State University. And now, after four years of not touching trains at all, things feel different. I think I have the time, the money, the motivation, and even the space. It feels like I do now. This journal will cover the progress from "I remember Walthers" to "wow, it's an actual layout." All aboard!

Thursday, July 12, 2007. Discoveries and purchases this week. Sunday evening I went to my storage spaces and dug for some stuff. I was hoping to find one of my F-series locos and some tools. I did find a small tapping hammer and pin vise, a couple of pieces of rolling stock, and a couple of magazines. I also found my Weller 7200 75W soldering gun. It's like the linked one but came in a black carrying case. I think my college sweetheart's parents gave it to me for Christmas some fifteen years ago.

Monday, July 16, 2007. XTrkCAD is now free; this weekend's pursuits. A Windows-based track planning package, is now open sourced and promoted for Linux as well as Windows. I'll be going back in a week or two to get some more supplies, assuming I get my research done. I'm tempted to look into the Monon Route as well, partly from my Indiana heritage, and partly because my girl's mom was a witness to an impressive wreck on the Monon Route (September 17, 1951: Train #5 destroys Monon, IN depot.).
