Loco about Locos: February 2007
http://normanclasper.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Diary of a model engineer. Tuesday, February 20, 2007. The cylinders on this loco are gunmetal. Simply because that's what came with the bits I bought! I much prefer gunmetal anyway. I don't run my locos a lot, and worry that cast iron cylinders will rust. The other side of the coin is that you can use conventional piston rings with CI cylinders. You'll see the datum milled on the outside front of the cylinder casting. Also, the machined surface of the bolting face. I locked the cross slide, then re-chec...
Loco about Locos
http://normanclasper.blogspot.com/2007/07/boiler-4-work-has-progressed-boiler-is.html
Diary of a model engineer. Monday, July 23, 2007. Work has progressed - the boiler is now complete. The assembly sequence I used was as described in Alex Farmers book on boiler making - and, as it happens, his was also a GWR boiler, although bigger. As the assembly gets bigger, it always surprises me just how much heat it needs. I work outside, so can only work on wind-free ( and preferably dry) days. Also, I find it essential to use refractory bricks- without them, I'd never get up to temperature. I rem...

Loco about Locos: January 2008
http://normanclasper.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Diary of a model engineer. Tuesday, January 8, 2008. The original drawings showed what I think is the Hawksworth tender - I've previously made one in 5 in gauge, and thought the Collett tender would make an interesting change. It has a couple of major challenges - the top of the sides are flared, and also the rear corners of the tand are very rounded, so a tricky compound curve is created where they meet. The other tricky bit was the rivets -there are several hunders of them, and they're very prominent.
Loco about Locos: March 2007
http://normanclasper.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Diary of a model engineer. Friday, March 30, 2007. Just for a change. Just by way of a change, some pics of my finished locos - not me driving! This is a 5 in gauge B1. And this is my A3 Pacific, again in 5 in gauge. I was now ready to assemble the valve chambers into the cylinders. The end caps were removed, and drilled through clearance size. With this knowledge, the assembled cylinder was set up in the mill, and the guide bar facings were machined. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Stitch in Time.

A Stitch in Time
http://carolclasper.blogspot.com/2014/04/thats-another-quilt-finished.html
Sunday, 27 April 2014. That's another quilt finished. Just finished the binding this morning. It was a panel I found in Kaleidoscope. Quilt shop, bought on a whim. The lovely coloiured fabric in the border and binding is one that has been in my stash for more years than I care to remember. It must have been waiting for this particular quilt because the colours match so very well. I had planned on quilting it myself but instead I sent it down to Kay Bell. 26 June, 2014 23:27. A Stitch in Time: The Last Clinic by Darla by Gary Guisick
http://carolclasper.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-magic-clinic-by-darla-by-gary.html
Friday, 22 November 2013. The Last Clinic by Darla by Gary Guisick. The book starts right away with a murder. Rev Aldridge is shot whilst protesting outside an abortion/health centre. The centre provides health care for women not just abortions and Aldridge and his fellow protestors are keen to close it down. Darla Cavannah, a detective, moved to Jackson with her pro footballer husband who was tragically killed in a vehicle accident. Still grieving Cavannah was assigned to the case to solve the murder.
A Stitch in Time: Fabric Postcard Box Tutorial
http://carolclasper.blogspot.com/2007/05/fabric-postcard-box-tutorial.html
Sunday, 13 May 2007. Fabric Postcard Box Tutorial. I have been making boxes for many years and I was thinking of a way I could store the many fabric postcards I have received when they are not on display. What better way to store them than in a "Fabric Postcard Box"! Since the fabric postcards inside the box are the star of the show I have used a simple batik for the inside and outside of the box. Fast2Fuse (or Timtex and bondaweb). Fabric for the outside of the box. Fabric for the inside of the box.
A Stitch in Time: Gaudi Windows and Tyvek Beads
http://carolclasper.blogspot.com/2007/03/gaudi-windows-and-tyvek-beads.html
Saturday, 24 March 2007. Gaudi Windows and Tyvek Beads. I have decided to add tyvek beads to the ends of the "Gaudi Windows" wall hanging. I still had some of the silver painted tyvek left from yesterday. I over painted it with blue acrylic paint and black Quink Ink to try and get a colour match. I know I won't get an exact colour macth since the materials I am using are different and each takes colour differently. I then dabbed a little paint around the "bead" and then sprinkled it with embossing powder.
A Stitch in Time: Norman's Quilt Finished
http://carolclasper.blogspot.com/2014/04/normans-quilt-finished.html
Sunday, 27 April 2014. I made this quilt a while ago. I never seemed to have the time to get it finished. However I sent it down to Kay Bell in the Borders to have it quilted, and what a beautiful job she made of it. The binding is finished and Norman has claimed it as his. I made it with a layer cake. I thought the colours were just right for a man's quilt. It's always nice when another project gets finished and isn't just lying around as a UFO. 24 July, 2014 12:43.
