John's Wildlife Wanderings: January 2015
http://johnswildlifewanderings.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 January 2015. White Nuns, Great Grey Shrike and much more! Had a day to myself on Sunday (25/01), so having done most of my recent birding close to home, I decided to do the rounds a bit further a field and head towards the north end of Northants. I set off first thing in the dark, driving straight to Blatherwyke, NE of Corby. I had a good look around the old church here with a couple of Hawfinch recently reported here. Sadly no sign with just good numbers of Chaffinch. I then headed back alon...

http://johnfinlaysonbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-very-hyper-active-little-fella.html
Amateur wildlife photography in Northamptonshire and beyond. Thursday, 6 August 2015. A very hyper active little fella . Constantly on the move darting to and fro amongst the reeds Stoats have been clocked. Moving at 20 mph when in hunting mode. As carnivores, they will hunt, catch and eat a wide range of food sources with rabbits being a staple prey species, rodents and wildfowl. In many cases their prey is far bigger in size than they are themselves. Stoats have litters of 5-12 kits in April and May.

http://johnfinlaysonbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/followed-by-dragonfly-day.html
Amateur wildlife photography in Northamptonshire and beyond. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Followed by a Dragonfly day . OK, here goes, talk about putting a questionable, bordering on non-existent reputation for Dragonfly identification on the line. But you have to learn when venturing into unknown waters. All comments, corrections and wisdom greatly appreciated. Thanks to John Murray and Graham Barker. Ruddy Darter . or maybe Common? Actually a male Ruddy Darter,. Well I got it half right. No idea - NB.

http://johnfinlaysonbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/an-identification-challenge-from-recent.html
Amateur wildlife photography in Northamptonshire and beyond. Thursday, 13 August 2015. An identification challenge from a recent visit to Fowlmere. Had us scratching our heads and consulting the guide books. It had most of the characteristics of a Ruddy Shelduck but it wasn't, grey head? This is a pair of Ruddy Shelducks that I photograped at Slipton last year. The staff at the visitor center held the answer . its a South African ( Cape ) Ruddy Shelduck and an escapee from a wildfowl collection. On Sunda...

Poems of a pensive or playful persuasion. Monthly Archives: August 2015. August 24, 2015. When I was not quite a child, but not full-grown. I loved to sit and hear the rain on windows. Or pattering, battering the roof. The rain was a waterfall,. Remote and full of promise. Leading to who knew what magic future. Now I am not a child, and quite full-grown. I sometimes grab a waterproof and wellies. And go splash in puddles,. Though more often I sit and wait,. And wonder will it ever stop. Of rain or sun.
