Northwest Norfolk Naturalists

New* Patch list 2015. Blasts from the Past. For now we are young let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see". Sunday, 2 August 2015. 22 butterfly species on the wing on the patch today! Chalkhill Blues and other butterflies. On this warm, sunny afternoon at Ringstead Downs I saw 2 Chalkhill Blue males flying among the Small Scabious on the North-east slope. I hope these are the first of a good number and could be a sign that they bred successfully last year! Wednesday, 22 July 2015.

I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do. Thursday, September 1, 2016. The oporto goes home and leaves Celine Dion behind. Oporto means "white man". On my first few days driving through communities on our way to conduct focus groups, the little children along the road would yell "oporto, oporto" and point at our vehicle. I finally asked the meaning and found out I was the cause. In these more remote areas, seeing a foreigner regardless of race, is very uncommon. Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
