Well, I'm not going to say who. Got the flu vaccine this year, and who. Yes, yes, there is a million-to-one chance that if you get vaccinated, something terrible will happen to you - it'll kill you or ruin your nervous system or make you walk backwards for the rest of your life. Guess what? There's a much greater chance of you getting the flu - and perhaps having serious complications, including death, from it - if you don't. This is a food blog, right? Making my own vegetable stock. Simple, Easy, and Fast Vegetable Stock. Note: Makes about 1 quart (4 cups). Time: 40 minutes, somewhat unattended. 2 carrots, cut into chunks. 1 onion, quartered (don't bother to peel). 1 potato, cut into chunks. 1 celery stalk, chopped. 2 or 3 cloves garlic (don't bother to peel). 10 or 20 parsley stems or stems with leaves. 2 T extra virgin olive oil. Salt and freshly ground black pepper. Strain, then taste and adjust the seasoning before using or storing. 1 potato, sliced.

Disastrous lasagna, part 2. After the previous disaster. I thought I vetted this lasagna recipe pretty well - yes, it did use the weird "no-cook" lasagna noodles again, but the ingredients were so yummy - leeks, shiitake mushrooms, and asparagus, who could not love that? T on a plate, does it not? And it didn't even heat up well as leftovers for the next day's lunch - the final straw! Just for posterity's sake. Lasagna with Asparagus, Leeks, and Mushrooms. 2 T butter, divided. 2 t chopped fresh thyme.

Vodka-poached salmon with cilantro pesto. Poached fish is usually both tender and a bit bland, and this recipe was no exception (even though it was poached in vodka! However, the cilantro pesto was absolutely incredible. We didn't get as drunk as we would have liked by consuming the salmon, but the discovery of the cilantro pesto should be useful for many future dishes. Note: We halved this recipe. Vodka-Poached Salmon with Cilantro Pesto. 4 skinless salmon fillets, about 1 inch thick. 1/2 t kosher salt.
