Fruit Salad and Icecream, Hold the Banana: August 2008
http://bananainorcland.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Fruit Salad and Icecream, Hold the Banana. Friday, August 22, 2008. I've finally figured out how to change my timezone! I've been avidly avoiding the stories about the baby whale on TV, on the various websites that I view, and in the newspapers (even though I don't see a whole lot of those). But this morning I saw on the NZ Herald site that vets are going to euthanise the poor little blighter because he's starving, and my pathetic girly hormones kicked in and I started to tear up. The end of my student l...

Fruit Salad and Icecream, Hold the Banana: May 2008
http://bananainorcland.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Fruit Salad and Icecream, Hold the Banana. Saturday, May 31, 2008. It's been a while. And I've missed you. Firstly - big ups to the Fishy. Happy Bday and *hugs*! Secondly - *hugs* for Ug. Sorry I missed you but I'm glad you are okay. There has been lots happening. I went to my first bookfair in Auckland. It's not as well organised as Wellington ones - actually it wasn't really organised at all! I went out dancing for the first time in Auckland. Well Nic and I attempted to. Apparently nowhere in A...I dro...

Judge & Jury: December 2014
http://judge-jury.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. The Case for Nightcrawling. Jake Gyllenhaal plays creepy disturbingly well. When he gets thin, his big eyes look hollow, his wide mouth looks sinister, his intense stare looks… well, intense. And all of these physical attributes, along side his robotic like delivery and focussed attention means he plays the amoral and psychotic Lou Bloom, a Nightcrawler. Fingers crossed it keeps its head above water. But enough of that. Sunday, December 21, 2014. To stretch out the movie reven...

Judge & Jury: February 2015
http://judge-jury.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. The Case for a Brief History. In my lead up to the Academy Awards, I had to see The Theory of Everything. The well regarded tale of the life and times of Stephen Hawking, as seen through the eyes (and the memoirs) of his ex-wife Jane. Verdict: The actors in The Theory of Everything. Raise the film above the average to the extraordinary. It didn’t blow my mind, but it definitely made me think and kept me entertained throughout – and what more can one ask? 8 theories out of 10.

Judge & Jury: June 2014

Saturday, June 28, 2014. The Case for DocoFest 2014. I quite like a good documentary! Is doing a really good job of screening some interesting documentaries every Tuesday night, but I also thought I should support some of the films showing at the Edge Documentary Film Festival. Especially when some of the films clash with the new Rugby Season and so are almost guaranteed to be sparsely attended. Such was the case with the first film Bridegroom. And odd sorts of testimonials from various friends and famil...
