Is a guide to building a windows desktop that uses only freeware. It's a nice idea, although idealogical purists might prefer to use only Open Source. Software for that extra minty-fresh freedom taste. Two similar, open-source driven projects can be found here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). London, United Kingdom. View my complete profile.

Joey - Mozilla mobile content aggregator. Is one of those ideas that sound so obvious in retrospect - a sort of del.icio.us. Aimed at streamlining mobile browsing. Its a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but I'm going to give it a try and see how it works in practice. If it makes extended browsing on a Nokia N73 enjoyable then we may have a winner. There is a YouTube demo film here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). London, United Kingdom. View my complete profile.

Arr, me hearties, etc. Are working on a new Peer-to-Peer protocol. That they claim will improve the weaknesses and limitations of existing technology like BiTorrent. Although BitTorrent at least has a thin veneer of legitimate usage (and indeed is used for above-board data transfer, software downloads, etc) the new protocol seems aimed squarely at more ethically grey uses of File Sharing. In other file sharing news, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has come out. As an ex- Oink. London, United Kingdom.

039;cause tonight i'm on my way…. Brussels and Luxembourg don’t make for decent puns. November 12, 2008. As I spent most of my first day in Brussels in front of the TV, which really threw me since I hadn’t been in front of a TV in ages, I didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy the city. It was nice. Saw some old buildings, etc. But that was about it. Aside from French Fries (it’s true! I did enjoy this though. Nothing like warning you of the threat of security (the! While walking up towards the museum, thi...

039;cause tonight i'm on my way…. Ich Ben Ein Berliner. November 5, 2008. On the train ride to Berlin. The smoke was so much more profound in reality. It looked like a painting. But it’s always hard to capture a decent image on fast moving locomotive. My hostel. I think it was a former jail. The rooms were small and the walls were thick. Given that I was in Germany I didn’t want to think of alternatives. Now, that’s some graffiti. The train stations. One of the more massive ones I’ve seen. What the stree...

January 31, 2014. My best advice would be to speak about something you know. And maybe also to cover your approach to solving a problem and your thinking or process, instead of technical matter. I’m not sure that people get a ton out of technical talks or that they can really absorb all of the content from any talk, but a great way not to waste someone’s time is to share your experience with them. I love hear people’s stories, especially those where they faced obstacles and overcame them. January 8, 2014.
