Love You Forever ~ Notes From the Cookie Jar

http://www.notesfromthecookiejar.com/2013/05/love-you-forever.html

Notes From the Cookie Jar. Sunday, May 12, 2013. The little box of magnetic poetry was thrust into my hands last spring when Anne was cleaning out her house before she moved to Vancouver for cancer treatment. I had always liked the idea of magnetic words to play with-being a writer and word lover at heart, they seemed like a lot of fun. One last word to go. What will I pull out? I'm not normally one to do this, but before I reached back into the box, I paused and closed my eyes. Love you forever, too.

New Year's Goal: Getting My Inner Writer On ~ Notes From the Cookie Jar

http://www.notesfromthecookiejar.com/2014/12/new-years-goal-getting-my-inner-writer.html

Notes From the Cookie Jar. Monday, December 29, 2014. New Year's Goal: Getting My Inner Writer On. Do you make resolutions? I've written before that I don't, that I chose to make goals instead. What would your goals be? I don't have a lot of them, but I'm thinking of a few. 1 Write every day, publish at LEAST once a week. There are some things that I've gotten much better at the last few years, but there are still others that are woefully bad. Being better organized and dealing with things immediatel...

The Gingerbread Incident ~ Notes From the Cookie Jar

http://www.notesfromthecookiejar.com/2006/12/gingerbread-incident_6219.html

Notes From the Cookie Jar. Sunday, December 10, 2006. Many years ago, I slipped into a phase in my journey of motherhood that I'd like to call the "Martha-land" phase. I blame a certain domestic diva that was popular at the time, because for some reason I became enthralled with crafts, making homemade baby food, bread, the whole deal. Plus working. Oh, and being a foster mom too. Besides that, we also owned our own business. Or so I thought. I am the gingerbread baker, hear me roar! Yes, that's right.

Kids Are Always Full of Surprises ~ Notes From the Cookie Jar

http://www.notesfromthecookiejar.com/2015/03/kids-are-always-full-of-surprises.html

Notes From the Cookie Jar. Thursday, March 05, 2015. Kids Are Always Full of Surprises. For the longest time, I've been aching to get back into the kitchen with kids, teaching them about food and cooking. This really is my happy place; above all else that I do, it's what I love most. Since we moved from the Sunshine Coast to Chilliwack, it was the one part of my job that I missed most. I WANT SOMETHING SWEET! Can we taste the lemon? I almost fell over. Lemon? Down went the slices of lemon and soon they w...

When the music stops, turn around and bow. My life as a mom. Things I Love, Things I've Learned, and Things That Are True. Things I'm Doing - BlogHer Food in Seattle. I got an email a couple of days ago from a concerned reader (okay, it was my aunt) about whether I might have fallen off the edge of the earth. No, not the edge of the earth. Hey, no one's more surprised than me. It feels like it snuck up on me, even though this trip's been in the works for ages. My intrepid blogging pal, Karen. Together&#4...

Life Like Mine: January 2015

http://kelleybaldwinlifelikemine.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

The life of a wife, a mom and a writer. Approaching it all with laughs and luck. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. I grew up on a farm. And on that farm was a mom. A mom who knew how to stretch a buck. Especially during those lean times just before the cattle took their little trip to market, leaving us flush with cash again for several months. Oh, good times! No surprise, it’s the same in my own home all these years later. But now, thanks to recent events, none of us may never be able to eat. But wait a sec.

http://kelleybaldwinlifelikemine.blogspot.com/2014/12/language-barrier.html

The life of a wife, a mom and a writer. Approaching it all with laughs and luck. Thursday, December 11, 2014. Unless you’re nine years old. Then it becomes entertainment. Our son marched into the living room and announced in a booming voice, “I’ve been going comprende since the 1970s.”. Uh, say what? I chuckled and asked for clarification, “Did you just say ‘comprende’? 8220;Yeah,” he said. “You know, comprende. Could have been a squirrel. Could have been the cat chasing a squirrel. The life of a wife, a mom and a writer. Approaching it all with laughs and luck. Thursday, August 28, 2014. 8220;I took your advice, Mom, and didn’t do anything to get sent to the principal’s office,” my son announced after his first day of fourth grade. He smirked then added, “But I can’t promise the same thing tomorrow.”. There was a time I would have rolled my eyes and snorted at such a ridiculous sounding statement. My son? I used to joke that the only time the kid was a tattle-tale was on himself.

Life Like Mine: Arts and gaffes at the museum

http://kelleybaldwinlifelikemine.blogspot.com/2015/02/arts-and-gaffes-at-museum.html

The life of a wife, a mom and a writer. Approaching it all with laughs and luck. Thursday, February 12, 2015. Arts and gaffes at the museum. 8220;And this,” I pointed out the life-sized, breath-taking oil on canvas to my nine-year-old son and his friend, “is a Caravaggio.”. I turned to look at their faces, which appeared as if one was trying to divide 428,562 by 3 and the other was wondering what we’d be having for lunch. Not quite the spectacular reaction I was looking for. So I tried again. Then he jum...

Life Like Mine: March 2014

http://kelleybaldwinlifelikemine.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

The life of a wife, a mom and a writer. Approaching it all with laughs and luck. Friday, March 7, 2014. Oh, the birds and the bees. I knew the day was coming - in the not-so-distant future - when my young son would start asking more detailed questions his parents weren’t quite prepared to answer. It comes at dinner. On a Tuesday. While your mouth is stuffed to the gills with loaded mashed potatoes. Like, say, a carrot? Well, I friggin’ know why. Probably because I had a coronary due to too many potatoes.

Last month, our men's book club read and discussed Outliers The Story of Success. And the fast cars portion of my post title? Matthew Bumbach – director of the Marion Civic Chorale. October 10, 2011. Now that we’ve gotten into the Duke Ellington set, and we’ve learned a little bit about Ellington, we should focus some time on the arranger, Alice Parker. Parker is perhaps the most prolific living American composer/arranger. Her name is well known in the choral world and we consider her an expert on melody. Here is her official biography. A Brief Biographical Note. September 25, 2011. One thing that has always struck me when I st...

Notes From the Corner. Saturday, March 12, 2011. It’s been a while since I’ve allowed myself to think. “ Allowed? 8221; Yes, allowed. “ But isn’t thinking involuntary? 8221; After a near crippling shock to the body, the survival mechanism kicks in. You breathe. Short, rapid and involuntary at first, then gradually slower, deeper and more deliberate. Sadly that’s where the similarity between thinking and breathing ends. 8221; Because the mind is notorious for the deathly calm after. And then you let.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Fear or Self Divinity, Our Choice. FEAR OR SELF DIVINITY, OUR CHOICE. I haven't written anything "creative" for a very long time. Between, working and trying to refocus with the opening of the Phoenix Gate and a multitude of other reasons that can be summed up as "life", it has been a struggle to really find anything to say. Notes From the Cottonwood Tree

Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring? Sunday, March 27, 2016. Restoration of all things. I've been training for a half marathon, outside, since January. It has been inspiring to note the slow transition of winter back to spring as the temperatures creep up and the earth begins to unveil more and more of her rich colors. And then on top of it all, I could momentarily smell the spring air for the first time in 10 years. It was magnificent. Each distinct smell was like...

8220;For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone. We leave you a tradition with a future. The tender loving care of human beings will never become obsolete. People even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed.
