Thursday, November 20, 2008. Almost 4 months have passed since I left NOLA. Now I am left with the daunting concept of neatly summarizing the subtle yet profound ways that I have changed. Notes from the Ninth: Regionalism in New Orleans

http://www.notesfromtheninth.blogspot.com/2008/06/regionalism-in-new-orleans.html

Thursday, June 12, 2008. Regionalism in New Orleans. New Orleanians derive a huge amount of identity from their neighborhood.  Each neighborhood has its own unique identity and history.  Also in a city with a rather unusual street grid (concentric roads echoing the 'crescent' of the Mississippi River around the city and radiating 'spokes' perpendicular to the river) neighborhoods are used to navigate with relative accuracy.  . 160;Look under the "Handy Links" section! Notes from the Ninth: The Second Line...

http://www.notesfromtheninth.blogspot.com/2008/06/second-line.html

Monday, June 9, 2008. Last Sunday I had the privilege of participating in a traditional New Orleans “Second Line Parade.” The term “second line” originated with jazz funerals during which people walk through the streets playing music. Naturally drawn to the music, a second line of people would begin following the funeral parade, taking advantage of the opportunity to socialize, sing, dance, and enjoy the music. The photo at right is from a different society but featuring a similar color. In essence, non-...

Notes from the Ninth: Life at NENA and Landmarking Adventures

http://www.notesfromtheninth.blogspot.com/2008/06/life-at-nena-and-landmarking-adventures.html

Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Life at NENA and Landmarking Adventures. Having been working in the Lower Ninth Ward for almost a month now I am left with a somewhat clearer idea of what it is I exactly do here. I am (cue fanfare) an ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN INTERN. I like how official it sounds even though I gave it to myself. So.yeah.I'm doing architectural design work. I’ll keep y’all posted on how our application goes! Posted by Urbane New Urbanist. Friday, May 30, 2008. Initial Reactions from NOLA. Finally arrived in NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) after a tortuous trip down from Providence which involved getting my bags lost and missing connections. Walk off plane and.WHAM! HUMIDITY. This simple desert dweller is coming up with clever solutions to cope which I shall share in future posts. Posted by Urbane New Urbanist. Saturday, May 24, 2008. Excelsior: The Blog of the Ancients: It's Not a Game

http://evablog85.blogspot.com/2009/03/its-not-game.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. It's Not a Game. There are any number of places, but I am particularly fond of Gamasutra. As their tagline says, they are devoted to the "art and business of making games". Perfect! Even a cursory glance at the articles they feature is a great resource to breaking intelligently into the conversation of video games. And there are things to talk about. The upcoming OnLive. Now, I know what you're thinking. Gaming isn't all about video games! Well, fear not! Is full of awesome des...

Saturday, August 9, 2008. I'm 23 now. The big two-three. Yeah, it's not that exciting, but I had a great birthday. Lacey has been here since Wednesday, and we've been having a great time in the big city. Thursday night we saw August: Osage County. The winner of many Tony awards and a Pulitzer prize. It lived up to the hype. It was an amazing crafted show, and brilliantly mixed comedy and drama in one of the most enjoyable family conflicts I've ever seen. Absolutely worth the money. Wanted: Dead or Alive.

Saturday, December 26, 2009. You'll love Avatar, even if you hated it. This isn't a review. Really, it's not, I promise. These days you can't do much without getting someone's opinion on James Cameron's latest work. Whatever your opinion of Avatar is, you'll end up loving it in the coming years. The face of film is changing, and it's blue and furry. Why do we like movies? We know it and love it, but there a lot of barriers to keeping us there. Anytime a movie makes us stop and say, "What is that? Avatar ...

Saturday, August 2, 2008. Art: Form and Fantasy. Despite the really fancy title, I imagine this post will be fairly mundane. I recently scrounged through my "Pictures" folder and discovered that I had a lot of cool images that I didn't see very much. So, I put them all in a folder and now my desktop changes. Randomly every hour. After that I scoured DeviantArt. For any cool pictures I could find, and now I've got a fun surprise on my desktop every hour! Um has unique qualities tha.
