Notes from the Veg Patch

Notes from the Veg Patch. January 6, 2017. So it is timely that a wonderful book has come into my life. Charts the history of the British pudding tradition (savoury and sweet) from its earliest medieval incarnations to the sticky toffee desserts promoted by a million 1990s gastropubs. Its author, Regula Ysewijn. Pride and Pudding by Regula Ysewijn. Inspired by my new-found literary friend, I’ll soon be having a go at jam roly-poly and spotted dick, but this week it was that classic suet-based rib-s...

Conversions | Notes from the Veg Patch

http://notesfromthevegpatch.com/conversions

Notes from the Veg Patch. I have loads of books and recipes from websites which call for US cups, Australian cups and olde English pounds and ounces, but I prefer to work in grams. This is my conversion chart. Plain flour: 1 cup = 150g. 1/2 cup = 75g / 1/4 cup = 35g. Cocoa: 1 cup = 100g. 1/2 cup = 50g / 1/4 cup = 25g. Caster sugar: 1 cup = 200g. 1/2 cup = 100g / 1/4 cup = 50g. Soft brown sugar: 2/3 cup = 115g. Rolled oats: 1 cup = 90g. Desiccated coconut: 1 cup = 120g. Buttermilk: 1 cup = 250g.

Batman has an Allotment! Urban gardening and seasonal cooking. What We’re Growing 2014. What We’re Growing 2015. Newer posts →. First glut of 2015. April 26, 2015. Yes, even though it is only April, our first glut has arrived. After the winter, our purple sprouting broccoli has decided it is time to do its name proud, and is sprouting like mad. Over the last two weeks, we have taken several kilograms home. We also built a support for our pea seedlings, and have planted them out. Lastly, we tidied up the ...

Notes From The Underwhelmed

Notes From The Underwhelmed. What Fresh Hell is This? Thursday, August 9, 2012. You Need To Go To Charm School, Bitches. One thing you may know about me, if we are friends, is that I collect old timey etiquette books due to the fact that they are hilarious. You Are An Inconvenience To Strangers. Things Not To Say, Ever. Err on the safe side, don't say shit. I feel like this should be common sense, but alas. Don't ever say "You look tired". Do you know when I look tired? Introduce people thoughtfully when...

NOTES FROM THE UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER

NOTES FROM THE UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER. A collection of random thoughts about Food, Travel, Theater, and life on a small Island in the Pacific Northwest. Because sometimes in the middle of July, the ONLY thing that works is a Mary Jenison Apron, and an inflatable beehive wig! That's our wonderful employee, Debra, modeling for us in Paper Scissors On The Rock. (must've been the heat.). PsI love how Sadie is staring at her ankles trying to figure out just what the hell is goin' on! 18 - Spanky and Our Gang ...

Notes from the UP Road

Notes from the UP Road. When we see others as the enemy, we risk becoming what we hate. When we oppress others, we end up oppressing ourselves. -Archbishop Desmond Tutu. This blog has come to the end of its useful life.  It seemed silly to keep writing Notes from the UP Road, when I'm no longer traveling UP Roads.  At least not for long.  I've created a new blog - if you've been a faithful reader of this one - I thank you. I hope to be more disciplined about writing there.  Do check it out at:. As I&#821...

Notes From The Upstairs Room. Monday, July 12, 2010. Somehow the cat just knew. My latest blog was loosely inspired by one of my friend Clay's recent blog about fear. His blogs are at clayperry.blogspot.com. They're some of the best reading I've found in awhile.you should go there and partake. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Notes From The Victorian Man

Notes From The Victorian Man. My findings and insights on the clothing, material culture, knowledge, and customs which built the man of the long 19th Century. Saturday, May 23, 2015. Ca 1820s Coat and Trousers, National Museum of Denmark. I've had this suit in my head all week but just finally found the source. It is from the National Museum of Denmark and is a perfect example of the deepening lapels that took hold in the early 1820s. Collars and lapels sat very noticeably higher at that point. Look ...

NOTES FROM THE VOMITORIUM. Blissblog: Spectres of Mark: The State of the Debt, the Work of Mourning. Blissblog: Spectres of Mark: The State of the Debt, the Work of Mourning. Nice riff on the spookiness of vocals in Burial's work here by Reynolds. Perhaps that’s why Burial often locates the sampled vocals in his tracks in an uncanny realm, comparing them at various points to the sound of “a banshee, a strange, wounded animal cry,” “something not human I’ve got chained up in ...And a “forbidden sire...
