Notes From The Zeitgeist. Monday, July 28, 2014. Angry Bladders: Top 10 Reasons NOT to Run The San Francisco Marathon. Top 10 Reasons NOT to Run the SF Marathon. 10 It's expensive. If you don't live in SF, SF is one of the most expensive places on earth to get a hotel room. The race is also more expensive than most by about $20. I know you're already paying someone to suffer like hell, but $20 is, on average a pitcher and a half of beer. See also number 5. 6 A lack-luster expo that happens in the most in...

Notes From The Zeitgeist. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Cyber Vandalism: Why We Can't Have Nice Things. It's not that I necessarily think it was a good idea for Google to allow the public to mark their maps, but this feature underscores where we are as a society. Create something that can be used for good and be rest assured it will be used to do something awful. Sadly, I had always thought Cybervandalism would be far more interesting. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Tuesday, May 19, 2009. John Vanderslice: "Romanian Names". SF indie pop darling John Vanderslice's latest album,. Is out today and he and the band will throw their album release party tonight at Rickshaw Stop with the Morning Benders at 7:30 ($16). NPR is streaming the album here. And I found this clip of him playing the title track in the studio for KEXP's Bay Area Broadcast. Here's my post about it over at 7x7's Clamour blog. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, November 29, 2010. Thankful for a great weekend. Kept the table simple. Ate lots of food! Discovered some gems in my grandfather's box of photos my dad brought. My mom came to visit. Monday, January 11, 2010. Real Sippin' Whiskeys @ 9th Annual Sleepless Nights. Er yeah we haven't been going to many shows lately. The last one was Thao for the 3rd time, I guess. BUT this Friday night is the Great American's annual Sleepless Nights tribute to Gram Parsons, and a local country band I absolutely love, The Real Sippin' Whiskeys. Anyway, love this band, listen to their stuff, and if you get a chance to go to the Sleepless Nights tribute on Friday, it's definitely worthwhile.

Notes From the World Classroom
Notes From the World Classroom. Random musings and aimless reflections on life, education, current events, and a whole lotta nothing else.Oh, yeah, I'm a homeschooling mom. Saturday, October 23, 2010. I'm tired. I mean, I'm beyond exhausted. Worry, worry, worry. Late nights researching. On the run so that my kid has every opportunity to socialize and to explore the world. I'm just tired. Not whining. Just tired. I've got more to say at a later date, but I just can't do it now. Notes From the Yellow Buggy
Notes From the Yellow Buggy. Thursday, November 26, 2009. I guess my word for the week is curious. Just when I think I know something, then that something gets called into question. I have some hippy friends who only say "maybe" when they are invited somewhere, because they have decided to follow their hearts and not go somewhere if it feels like something else is where their hearts are at, at that moment. Plus my buddhist friend in Nashville's parting blessing was "follow your stomach! And I am held.

Notes From Time Out | Momentary breaks from mothering, working, doing.
Notes From Time Out. Momentary breaks from mothering, working, doing. How Are You Doing? April 5, 2014 in Daily Life. It’s been almost four months since my mom died, and I have to say, the third month has been the toughest so far. Everything feels harder. I miss my mom. I can’t believe she’s gone. I hurt every day, some days more than others. In my cycle of grief, as a wise social worker friend calls it, I’m at a stage where my nerves, and my patience, are dwindling. I feel sort of numb and punchy. My mo...

Notes From Toad Hall. Sunday, May 16, 2010. Final Notes (Notes #2, 2010). We’ve also got Serena, a GPS, who fondly and frequently recalculates our routes without any complaints, and I’m so DONE reading maps and missing exits as I shout instructions across the nation’s freeways. Denis: Because I don’t HAVE one. Eye-rolling from her. The young clerk, also an infant, cheerfully reported: Oh, it’s okay; a lot of our older (OLDER? Family Notes (Notes #2, 2010). The Life of Faith in an Evolving World: A Sketch. When we study chimp society, we can see ourselves. Unfortunately, the same is true when we study chimpanzee brutality. The Zero Theorem (Terry Gilliam, 2014). Sometimes, in taking ideas to absurd lengths they warn of how things may unfold in the future and the insight of their humor assumes a prophetic edge. Carrie and Lowell (Sufjan Stevens, 2015). Is it possible we have lost the art of lament, and in the process have also lost something of our souls?
