http://greenawalthistory.blogspot.com/2012/05/ha-i-love-it-when-i-stumble-on-sources.html
Saturday, May 19, 2012. I love it when I stumble on new sources and new NAMES! Last night I found SeekingMichigan.org, which has a selection of death records scanned. I found four previously unknown ancestors of great great grandmother Margaret Ann Gallentine. This first death record is for Margaret's father, John W. Gallentine (b. 25 Dec 1838; d. 3 May 1905). I previously had no record of his parents, but lo and behold, both names are recorded: Abraham Gallentine and Louisa McKnight! Irvin, Irwin, Irven.

http://greenawalthistory.blogspot.com/2010/05/additional-note-on-spelling-of-name.html
Friday, May 28, 2010. Additional note on the spelling of a name. I suspect this is an uncomfortable subject. When I showed my dad the photo of his grandfather's headstone. Also of note, his adopted son Malcom and daughter-in-law Laura named their first child Irven. In other family histories and pedigree files, I've seen it spelled Irvin and Irwin. So Was his name really misspelled on his headstone? Is grandson Irven's name an unfortunate typo? How can we know how Jacob himself spelled his name? I have no...
