The Square Peg: The Wrong Men
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015/08/misguided.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2015. No one enjoys a good, old-fashioned protest more than I. People not only getting angry, but getting involved and organizing and devoting time to the expression of that discontent is at the very heart of my definition of democracy. We the people countering a war, Wall Street greed or police brutality forcefully but peacefully is such a powerful thing. I mean, Twitter rants are wonderful, but they're just not the same. Perhaps they had confused Sanders with Baltimore police chief ...

The Square Peg: July 2015
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. I hate it when people can't do whatever they went. Especially when they're behind the wheel. Whether I'm responsible or not, I feel like the grinch who stole Christmas. Take, for example, the young woman who was attempting a right turn in a residential neighborhood I frequent. Palming the steering wheel as she attempted her turn, the vehicle swung wide as she was unable to sufficiently corral the heavy tires and 19” wheels of her SUV with a single hand. Was glaring at me. Dismissin...

The Square Peg: January 2015
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 24, 2015. I just received the awful news that Ernie Banks passed-away last night. He was gracious, a perpetual optimist and Leo Durocher's least-favorite Cub. When Durocher expressed his contempt for Banks' nice-guy image and seeming lack of grit and fire, it was pointed out to ol' Leo that Durocher had never grown up poor and black in the urban south and yet still managed to be one of the first African-Americans to make it to the Major Leagues. Don't think that took any balls, Leo?

The Square Peg: Sometimes, a Democrat's Best Friend Is a Republican
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015/07/sometimes-democrats-best-friend-is.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Sometimes, a Democrat's Best Friend Is a Republican. It's hard to believe Donald Trump once stood with Bill and Hillary Clinton as an avowed New York City Democrat. But times change, don't they? Utilizing the m.o. that built his real-estate empire, Trump is seeking the easiest path forward which will yield the great-possible reward. Which in this case is being President of the United States of America. The nomination is yours. It's as if after proving they can play "Chopsticks" ...

The Square Peg: Forced Busing
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015/08/forced-busing.html
Sunday, August 9, 2015. There is a critical personnel shortage where I work. Hence the paucity of posts. Twelve-hour days spent behind the wheel are not conductive to creativity. Only those of us too old or too far down the road of long-term unemployment remain; the younger and more employable of us having taken advantage of the rebounding economy and ditched the high-stress squalor of public transportation for greener pastures. Only the next address on your computerized manifest exists. It is a frustrat...

The Square Peg: April 2015
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2015. We've all seen the cop movie where the line between the law and the lawless is practically indistinguishable. The kind which illuminate just how thin the veneer of civilization can be. Former Chicago police commander John Burge, if he didn't inspire such movies, certainly lived them. Burge and his henchmen weren't picky: electrical cords, phone books, rubber hoses, guns. Anything would do. Machiavelli would have been proud. If that isn't offensive enough, know that Johnny Burge i...

The Square Peg: October 2014
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 18, 2014. Giving You the Business. In a perverse and ironic sort of way, I am grateful for the business world. Just when I think I've seen and heard it all, and that my sense of wonder is hopelessly atrophied, a study issued by the National Retail Federation appears which provokes peals of healthful and much-needed laughter. Excuse the outdated cultural references, but I find it funnier than George Carlin, Monty Python, Firesign Theater and George Bush number-two combined. The Federatio...

The Square Peg: August 2015
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 27, 2015. Waiting for the Drop. I'm not staking out space in Times Square so I can see (among other things) Ryan Seacrest and Selena Gomez really. Close up this New Year's Eve. Nor am I commenting on the recent fluctuations in the stock market, which suffers from a bad case of TMI if you ask me. No, I'm waiting for something else to drop. I'm waiting for the seventy-five cent package of Oreos to appear. It should be noted this is not. That and the irresistible opportunity to exponentiall...

The Square Peg: November 2014
https://thesqpeg.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 27, 2014. Michael Brown and Ferguson. I am not convinced that Michael Brown is a martyr. This in spite of the fact that I can't pick up a newspaper, turn on a radio or watch a TV and consume a story about him which doesn't contain the phrase “unarmed black teenager.”. Michael Brown was a teenage male. Not only that, he was a big. Teenaged male. And as teenagers are wont to do, he was capable of acting colossally stupid. Again provoked by some combination of an accomplice, music and/or ...
