Quite a few trees were down, but the scenery was awesome. Weather great too. The Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Dawn, was a bit too "peopled" for us. We arrived in Seward early today, with bags packed, ready to board the long 4 1/2 hour scenic ride on Alaska Railroad from Seward to Anchorage. Lots of glaciers, mountains and one moose along the 114 mile ride. But no bears. Note the iPhone ghost in the foreground of the lovely vista below. Anchorage, population 299,000, is the most modern.

Blackout curtains help but going to sleep at 11 pm with a still-bright sky is challenging. Saw this cow moose on the side of the road on our way to dinner at Black Diamond Cafe. Here is an openJDK 8 build patched to support proper (and fairly fast) subpixel font rendering on OSX, based on the new subpixel rendering code available in openJDK 9. The patches implementing this are available from the webreview for the JDK bugs 8087201. The sources for these patches are available here: here. In addition, I have patched with this.
