Not Quite Pretty

A place for the messy reality of . Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The Nightmare is Over. All that's left is the recovery. As the "breadwinner" in our family for a good number of years, this particular news struck me with a force I cannot explain. It was the most emotionally damning and damaging piece of news I've gotten in a good number of years. The inability to provide the most basic of needs for my family- a roof over their heads- damn near crippled me as a functional adult. I wish I'd been able to give ...

Not Quite Pretty: May 2009

http://www.notquitepretty.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

A place for the messy reality of . Friday, May 22, 2009. Last year about this time, I posted some pictures from my drive to work. At the time, there was an overpass/bridge that was being worked on and replaced. The actual bridge going over the highway was completely gone and the shoring on the side was being strengthened. These bridges were not in good shape. They weren't well maintained. Over time, their strengths, supports and shoring had eroded and they weren't safe to use. Thursday, May 21, 2009.

Not Quite Pretty: August 2008

A place for the messy reality of . Thursday, August 28, 2008. I am officially a SportsMom. I have a SweetPea in Basketball (just got out of Softball, formerly played soccer) and TallBoy plays Basketball when it rolls around. I love every minute. Watching my kids smile, laugh, play hard, be good sports, work hard to be on a team, cheering on their friends and moving outside their comfort zone is immensely rewarding. Them: "Where are you? Me: "I don't know! Them: "What do you see around you? I know which t...

Not Quite Pretty: April 2009

http://www.notquitepretty.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

A place for the messy reality of . Tuesday, April 28, 2009. I have been ducking life and laying low for a bit. I had mentioned some stuff going on in the background and I think I finally have a handle on what is happening and how I am going to deal with it. I had also been recruited by an insurance company and was being heavily pursued at the time of my interview with the paper. However, I had not yet passed my licensing exam, so they could not legally offer me a position with their firm. I am fearfully ...

Not Quite Pretty: September 2008

http://www.notquitepretty.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

A place for the messy reality of . Saturday, September 27, 2008. I finally finished my 'jacks and I think they look wicked awesome. They have a VERY. Iron Man thing going on, but I am extremely happy with them. I haven't intentionally painted figures since TallBoy was a baby and I was really nervous about trying again. I am glad I did, but I don't know if I will play very much. Between time, money and a million other interests, WarMachine may be at the bottom of the pile. One of my favorites in this bunch.

In Januar of 2009, we moved Amored Gopher Games. I'm signing off for now. but there is more to say, and I will say it eventually. View my complete profile.

The musings of one simple man on games, music, fatherhood, marriage, and life in general. Monday, January 22, 2007. The Other Shoe Drops. The last post, I said that I had another project in mind, but it wasn’t ready for announcing yet. Well… it still isn’t, but I’m going to do so anyway. The other project explores my not-so-known love of miniatures games. While I enjoy some historical minis games, what I really dig are the games with a more fantastic theme. I seriously love. Thinking about the whole asse...

The musings of one simple man on games, music, fatherhood, marriage, and life in general. Thursday, November 15, 2007. Well, it seems that neither of my proposed articles have been written by magical writing faeries. Nor have they been written by me. This is typical of me. I get ideas and can’t get to them immediately. Then some shiny new idea pops into my brain and I leave older, but still viable, ideas by the wayside. C’est la vie. At Armored Gopher Games. The musings of one simple man on games, music, fatherhood, marriage, and life in general. Monday, June 14, 2010. After some of the headaches I've gone through today, I'm surprised I'm not wandering the countryside killing hookers with a spoon. With less than happy people. The basic conversation to get the first hurdle cleared went something like this. Bank Employee #1: Welcome to XXXXX, how are you doing today? Me: Grumpy. This switchover is anything but painless. BE#2: What seems to be the problem?

http://rhmaniac.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

The musings of one simple man on games, music, fatherhood, marriage, and life in general. Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Today is a snow day of sorts. The Midwest is currently weathering blizzard conditions and said condition left me unable to drive the 20-25 miles to work. Basically after trying to leave town by a couple of different ways, I ended up stuck for thirty minutes in a rural driveway in an attempt to turn around. That sealed my decision not to go to work today. Figures on my painting table right...

Monday, May 9, 2011. A year in the life. You know I always pictures growing older to come with a certain amount of wisdom. Maybe a package delivered on your birthday with new knowledge and advice for this next year of your life. Lessons you should have learned in the past years, things you should have taken away from life experiences. A checklist maybe. I didn't get any of that this year, or in years past. Full of nearly profound thoughts, and some that are really not. Pass On Some Kindness and Try to Hold Hope. November 18, 2011 by Not Quite Profound. First, this is going to be a long one, brace yourself. Secondly, in my last post, I mentioned that if there is one thing I want out of life, it is that I will have been kind enough to people. Tonight, I received a little validation that I was doing just that. It both made me feel good, and a little sad. Here’s why:. What on earth is wrong with the world?
