autumn is always good to me | Archive 34
https://archive34.wordpress.com/2013/09/09/autumn-is-always-good-to-me
Sound of the Archives! September 9, 2013. Autumn is always good to me. I have settled on my first tattoo idea. I’ve decided on the ampersand, which not only has an interesting history. At least to me), but is also meaningful and just intrinsically beautiful to me. It’s one of those visuals that I don’t understand why I like it, but I do — though I suppose most things are like that. For me, “& #8221; signals to not despair, because there is more. I hope that my other future tattoos will be remin...Click t...

I don’t even like the word limbo though | Archive 34
https://archive34.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/989
Sound of the Archives! March 16, 2014. I don’t even like the word limbo though. I’d say we’re in limbo again, but I’m ever so slowly realizing that adulthood is anything but stable and always in limbo. Becoming a responsible adult is the easy part; the hard part is managing constant change and uncertainty. There will never be employment that is a sure thing for life, and I don’t know why I was always working towards that, anyway. Wouldn’t that be dull? You DON’T want a nap! I just didn’t expect this.

the night owl librarian: September 2011
http://thenightowllibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 22, 2011. As I had mentioned in my last post, I am in the Collection Development and Management course. For this class, we were given the assignment to pick materials for an already existing collection with a budget of "$1,000.". When I first heard this was our job, it sounded simple enough: pick books that would best fit the libraries users. Little did I know that there is so much more. 1 Look at other collections. This may seem like the obvious thing to do when trying to find a good...

the fog days of summer | Archive 34
https://archive34.wordpress.com/2013/08/09/the-fog-days-of-summer
Sound of the Archives! August 9, 2013. The fog days of summer. Summers are usually hard for me. I grew up in a temperate-leaning-to-chilly climate and that’s what I love. Summers also tend to feel a little like a free fall, because all of my life school has ended and at the other end something else is supposed to start. This is the first time in my life I don’t have that last book-end in place to catch myself. Women need to be more confident of themselves and their work. Some of my favorite days: brunch ...

the night owl librarian: life (thus far) at SLIS - Indiana University
http://thenightowllibrarian.blogspot.com/2011/09/life-thus-far-at-slis-indiana.html
Thursday, September 15, 2011. Life (thus far) at SLIS - Indiana University. I never know how to start off a blog. So this is how I'm going to start it. Representation and Organization was the "alternate" Cataloging class. I am very happy I took this because, it approach cataloging in a very different way. We were able to explore the different ways that people classify and catalog materials. From the classic Dewey Decimal System to Folksonomy, we learned it all. I was able to go into the Lilly Reading Roo...

Musings of a Not-So-Stay-at-Home Mom
Musings of a Not-So-Stay-at-Home Mom. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Allowance. How much, for what, when? This topic regularly comes up with parents. There are a variety of approaches to allowances, and every family will have to decide what fits with their values, parenting style, and child’s (or children’s) personalities. When our daughter was going into first grade, we gave this issue a lot of thought. I read a couple of articles and books, including the fantastic Kids, Money, and Values. 8221; We may buy h...

When I look back at when my father first moved in with me, I cringe. I expected more from him than he was capable. He had only recently stopped driving (a blog, for another time.). He had been home most of the time alone, sometimes for days, nights, while his partner was away at work. I wonder now what those days and nights passed alone were like for him.
